I've been having some strange issues when trying to connect to YouTube. YouTube DNS queries work just fine:
Code:
$ host [url]www.youtube.com[/url]
[url]www.youtube.com[/url] has address 208.65.153.238
[url]www.youtube.com[/url] has address 208.65.153.251
[url]www.youtube.com[/url] has address 208.65.153.253
But any attempt to visit the site is just dropped. I managed to download the YouTube homepage with wget and that was only with about 15 automatic repeat attempts. I have access to servers in Johannesburg and in the USA and if I use them as a SOCKS5 proxy, then I can browse YouTube just fine. There doesn't appear to be any other connection problems with any other site that I've used today. My connection is handled with a Macbook Pro running 10.4 using a MTN branded Huawei E220 modem.

Can anyone else confirm problems with YouTube on MTN internet ?

Wierd, I check it every now and then. Will try on my Data card when I get home and feedback

Youtube working OK here on MTN + datacard.
Was having trouble connecting to some sites last nite tho (i thought it was Esets firewall doing something wierd tho)

Worked fine for me using an E272. Probably better than other video sites in terms of speed too.

My MTN worked with U tjoop, but was slow.

I don't like U tjoop on Vodacom either - the whole video downloads before i can realise its a crap video. still, that would be YouTube's fault for not providing a "Stop Streaming untill I decide I wanna watch it" Button...

YouTube on ur cap is like Rosanne Eating a donut....1,2,3 GONE!

I had exactly the same thought. And it's not as if you can keep the darned video either (unless you have that particular tool). One of the drawbacks of super-fast internet I suppose - and your's is faster than mine whichever network.

YouTube is definitely overrated.

>>Far too many looneys who think they will become instant stars.:o

[Solved]

Just as an addendum to this problem - I started to have even more problems with my connection on Friday & Saturday. The modem would not be recognized by OSX nor Windows XP (virtualized) or it would connect for two to three minutes and then disconnect before I could do anything useful. Thankfully I was extremely busy over the weekend and didn't really have any time to be online.

This morning I ran into an MTN branch and when they plugged the modem into one of their computers, it acted as though it was power cycling (it would register under the Device Listing & then just disappear & reappear). The staff at the store ended up phoning their technical support service who asked for the cell number of the active SIM card and I was told that they were sending some update for the SIM card. A moment later I turned on my laptop, plugged in the modem and lo & behold, it all worked...
