MTN boosts 3G coverage through the 900 MHz spectrum

Network me first

Finally! I can go home to great mobile speeds thanks to all the airtime I buy :)

I like the idea of those 'sustainable' towers. Bet you'll find when Eskom sees another bolt dropped, the metro areas will suffer, but these far flung dorpies will be cruising :p

MTN R18 Billion Investestment

R18 billion in the whole africa maybe and 3 or less in South Africa.

Servicing the communities, you not doing us any favors, your making money of us.

Telecom operators. They try to make things sound so sweet.

Just returned from the Riemvasmaak area.
This area was given a lot of foreign donor aid some years back. It was spent on improving agriculture facilities (irrigation systems), sport facilties etc. Unfortunately most of the infrastructure has been stolen!
Now the donor wants to see how their money was spent. And Zuma is visiting the area in 2 weeks time.
The roll on lawn people can't keep up. Neither can the irrigation suppliers! MTN were apparently ordered to install the mast!
Everything must look perfect for the donor & Zuma. The donor must been shown how their money was spent (twice) so that they donate more.

All I heard from the mouth of MTN's Karel Pienaar is "bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla", as usual. Marketing PR and hogwash. Are they playing catch up with Cell C in the 900mhz mobile broadband arena, and want to also get their name into the news? I definitely think so.

And MTN caring for it's customers, and rural customers nogal? Ha! Tell us more jokes won't you Karel. If you cared for any of your customers, you would firstly fix up the pathetic MTN call center, and stop harassing customers with billing errors, that are impossible to get sorted out. Then you can talk about caring for your customers. For now, we all know that MTN only cares about it's bottom line, profiteering to the highest degree, and shying away from or even blocking industry regulations from being implemented with legal proceedings and delay tactics.

Catch a wake up! We're not stupid.

We only have MTN 3G occasionally here in Bryanston. They would not believe me and sent a guy who sat on my stoep and proved it for himself - GPRS but no 3G!! Maybe we can get some of that 900 Hz - it does follow the ground does it not?

I also usually can't get a 3G signal from MTN at my house in Claremont, Cape Town. Its unacceptable. Vodacom and Cell C do not have the same problem.
