Hey all,

I need to connect a 3G/GPRS modem (F@stLink E160G) to a device that uses it to gain access to the internet.

In the device I can set the carrier settings:

3G/GPRS APN
3G/GPRS Username
3G/GPRS Password
Phone Number
IP Address
Proxy Address
Proxy port
Primary DNS
Secondary DNS

I tried using these settings:

3G/GPRS APN : internet
3G/GPRS Username
3G/GPRS Password
Phone Number : *99#
IP Address
Proxy Address
Proxy port
Primary DNS
Secondary DNS

I think I have this horribly wrong...

I bought mine from MTN so it had all the settings in the modem already.
just plugged it in and it installed all the settings automatically.

I see my APN is "myMTN"
Number is *99#
All else is blank.

Yeah, either myMTN or internet. Are you perhaps recieving an error number?

No, The device just says that it has no 3G connections. Im starting to think that maybe the device doesn support the modem.

Still having no luck here

Update:

Phoned the customer service line for the Data modems...
Was told to enter these settings:

3G/GPRS APN : myMTN
3G/GPRS Username
3G/GPRS Password
Phone Number : *99#
IP Address : 196.011.240.251
Proxy Address : 196.011.240.251
Proxy port : 8080
Primary DNS : 209.212.96.1
Secondary DNS : 209.212.97.1

Still having no luck connecting

Durban...

We'll be setting up an MTN APN soon. But not if the modems don't work.

Ill look into this more.

well I eventually solved th problem. Turns out the device wasn't getting enough power to the modem. So i just modded the USB slot to get it more power.

all i needed was:

APN: internet
Number: *99**1#

The device has 3 phases of circuitry. So instead of drawing the power from the last phase i switched it to the 1st phase. It wasn't as difficult as i made it seem in my last post. The boards have quite a lot of features where u can add components.
