The MTN coverage map is a load of crep! At 3 locations in JHB (Illovo, Sandton and Linksfield) there is 0 3G (i.e. even if you force 3G it will NOT work at all), only edge (and in some of these places only 1 bar of edge) even outside the building, yet the coverage map implies that it is covered!

Fortunately at my home and many other places there is fine 3G signal. But don't base your decision on the coverage maps

Yes that map is grossly outdated.... MTN LTE coverage is very extensive and covers most small towns but the coverage map doesn't even show it. They show me as having only EDGE but I have 3 bars of LTE....

It really depends on signal strength and the device you are using.

Not necessary! Only Vodacom works in my household full signal, CELL C/MTN/ non-existent lucky if I get 1-2 bar but the other side of the house I get 3 bars if lucky depending on day. Telkom Mobile works like a dream come true 4 bars.

I have used a few handsets and Vodacom is the best and I refuse to part with cash to buy equipment
