Hi.

I have this problem, where i want to connect to the internet, using my hsdpa usb mtn data card, but for some funny reason, when ever i open the program to connect it tells me "Data Card Invalid"....

Why would this be. I re-installed it, and it still doesn't work.

Thanks
Nico Mulder

I had the same problem but not consistently. Usually ejecting the card then inserting it worked but maybe your story is different

Maybe a problem with the cable? Do you get the problem with both cables?

I checked the usb cable. That works fine. I even uninstalled it, and installed it again, still gave me the invalid data card problem. I did try to take the card out, and put it back in, but didn't make a difference. The funny, thing is, it did work, but dont work anymore. I had it working on the desktop, and on the laptop, but now, it doesn't work on both.

Lastly,i have another question. When you install the program which you use to connect with, does it have a default profile setup after installation?

Thanks

As Skeptik mentioned, it is possibly a hardware issue with the modem itself and best to get it checked.

This depends on which software you have. I have the Huawei software which does not come with any default settings and you have to create your own. The Vodacom version of this software will most probably come with Vodacom default settings and likewise for the MTN version.

Does Windowz detect your data card?

Are you using the double USB cable? I have seen this error message when the USB port is unable to supply enough current to the data card.

Hi All.

Thanks for all the great responses.
1. Windows Detects the Device....not sure if it detects the card. It does detect the device...where it then asks me to install the new sofware. Or when it has been installed..and i plug it in...it does nothing. I have to open the app to connect via hsdpa or 3g etc.
2. No i am not using double usb Cable. the thing is it used to work...but somehow no it doesn't work no more.

I think it might be hardware...the card might be broken or something...as the device still works.

I have 2 user profiles, I think that is the correct term, on my laptop. Using Windows XP. If I swop from one profile to another without closing the modem software then I get a Data Card Invalid message when trying to use the modem in the 2nd profile.
This could be your solution

Hi Everyone.

Thanks so much for the help. I will test out all the ideas and come back to you all asap. Thanks for the reference on the previous forum.

So FIXED

I too had the problem, although when using the double USB connector I have not had the problem since. Seems to be an effective fix :)
