So, last month I got a 100mb data bundle on my MTN pre-paid card mainly for mobile use with a E220 modem. It worked fine but the bundle was a bit small so yesterday I purchased a 500mb bundle. The system said it would be loaded in 48 hours (the 30 days is only over today)

This morning I checked and it only loaded 100mb again. Why is this - I clearly specified *141*6*500# in the USSD command. Obviously there was enough money on the card.

Should I have cancelled the previous bundle first - even though it had run out??

When you order a bundle you are offered two options: a one-off bundle, or a bundle subscription. Sounds like you went for the bundle subscription, which means the same bundle will keep renewing every month as long as there is money on the SIM to pay for it. Sounds like you should have cancelled that first.

Thanks - I don't suppose I can cancell it now? Will I lose the data already subscribed or will it just carry on until it depletes itself?

How do you subscribe to a once off bundle anyway on MTN. I did not know these were available - only on VC?

Don't know about cancelling a bundle which is already in use, but see the Update below from another forum thread.

Also when you dial 555 to buy a bundle, one of the voice response stages asks you whether you want to subscribe to a bundle, or just buy a one-off. THAT'S where you make that vital choice. That option may also be open when buying online, but I have no experience of that -- I always find it easier simply to set it up from my phone.

UPDATE:
There is another very similar thread running in this forum, where 'adsl3g' has posted this procedure for cancelling a data bundle:

"From my experience I would assume it is as follows:
I assume you are on Pay as you go. First of all, you have to cancel the current data bundle by sending the following via a cell phone *141*6*0#.
After that, you subscribe to the new data bundle by sending *141*6*500#.
You must do this before the 30 days are up and the 100mb bundle is automatically renewed.
Ensure you have enough funds on the card to pay for the bundle.
Can someone else just confirm this for me pse."

Hope this all helps!

Ya, I posted that - I would assume that is how it works - will try it later and confirm (once my bundle is down to a few megs)
