MTN Deal

Damn what happened to those deals where you pay less and get a crap phone. eg. R269 for Anytime 350.

Do any of the other operators offer value like that?

I went and did just that. I told them I'd buy my own phone and want an Anytime 200 contract. After a lot of head-scratching by the consultants, I walked away paying R120pm for Anytime 200, including 75meg data (which I didnt want) and no CLI charge.

The thing is MTN's contracts with the rand value seem the best to me...

I just finished up with a pretty standard x-amount-of-airtime MTN contract. The money buys very little, certainly not anything like the value you get on Cell C's Straight Up contracts.

The Xperia T on Topup 200 is R309p/m and still comes with 150Megs of data.

Got two friends on it already :)

If you call a lot the anytime 350 gives you a lot more value than anytime 200 as the call rates are cheaper.

So as with anything depends on your needs.

Yeah it's for my Mom but I want the phone :D She's on 350 ATM but shes paying R269 so I'm not sure if she will want to pay in more.

Anytime 350 includes a possible 179 minutes according to MTN's website, costs R350 a month, calls are R1.95 a minute with included airtime and R2.35 a minute with normal airtime.

Cell C's Straight Up 200 includes 200 minutes (and 200 smses and 200MB), costs R200 a month, calls are 99c a minute from the first second anytime to anyone, and you get free Cell C to Cell C minutes whenever you top up.

I'm not seeing how MTN is better for people who call a lot.

You can get a fairly good phone on MTN Anytime 350 without any "pay-in" or increased subs. On Cell C the straight up 200 is R200 without a phone. If you take a MTN Anytime 350 without a phone, it is R209 (not sure if it is the same, was some time ago). So you get 180 minutes for R209 on MTN. Cell C is then only marginally cheaper (and you get some free data). But the problem is 3G coverage and Cell C's data problems (as seen in the forums). Just my 2c.

That's why I'm staying with them.
I like the fact that my anytime 350 contract gives me R350 airtime to use on data, calls and sms's. I don't call a lot, in fact I don't call unless it's to a call centre or so. I sms. I normally send > 300 sms's and use a bit of data too. I've added an sms bundle so in the end I never pay more than my subscription price.
The other networks, like Cell-C with 200 mins, 200mb data and 200 sms's wouldn't work for me as I'd have to buy a bigger sms bundle and would "carry over" 200 mins every month.
Just my opinion but I agree, if you call a lot, the other networks are probably better.

Just take a Cell C Straight Up 30 contract then with 30 minutes, 330 smses and 130MB data for R120 pm.
