MTN deploys street pole cell towers

Hello picocells!

This is fantastic to hear, finally this is happening! I wonder if they will use Poynting's Mantis product? In terms of monetising infrastructure, it makes even more sense as MTN can then advertise from their Yello Trader too. :)

The Mantis Cell has been designed to house the equipment required to implement a 4G, 3G, 2G and WiFi base station whilst also offering a means to display static and video advertising. The enclosure is supplied with LTE dual polarised antennas and an omni-directional dual polarised antenna for the backhaul. The antennas are completely hidden from view as they are located in the area making up the casing of the enclosure.

Where can the small cell base station be deployed?
• Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
• On street poles as static advertising boards.
• In shopping malls with a video advertisement display.
• As a display sign for shops.
• Ideal for supplying LTE, 4G, 3G, 2G and WiFi coverage in areas where site acquisition is difficult to obtain.
• High density areas.

Far better than a traditional "cell tower", don't you think?
