MTN down?

I cant even get an edge signal let alone 3G on my blackberry bold with MTN! Internet connection is just dead most of today. So much for free internet through BIS on blackberry.

Yep, this sounds like same thing i had entire weekend [still today].

My phone went totally bonkers, couldn't even boot up with the MTN sim in it. All kinds of software crashing/freezing followed with a "no signal" from MTN.

Heck i was receiving SMSes 2am in the morning that were like 6 hours delayed! MTN's network seems to be hitting rock bottom, i can understand a few 3G/GPRS related issues, but when my VOICE/SMS reception is going down the tubes as well i am seriously getting pissed off.

Also got the sms and dropped call issue. 2 days in a row now the data network has been unavailable from roughly 19:00 till 22:00. What area are you guys in? I'm in Fourways. Tried calling the helpdesk, but as usual they are not aware of any problems.
 
3 days in a row now that data is unavailable. It's been fine the whole day up until 16:00. Suddenly no connection available again. Last night from 19:00 till 22:00, and the previous evening from 18:00. I don't recall what time it came back again. Is MTN Data Dude still on the forum? Maybe he could give us some info on what is going on. In all the years I have been with MTN, I've never had something like this happening.
 
well i have everything down here in northcliff.. no voice.. data.. sms ... nothing.. getting network busy when i try dial anybody...

seriously.. they need to wake up.. its beyond a joke!
 
MTN EBB billing platform was down from 13:00 to 16:30 - thats serious as its a major revenue generating platform. Never experienced it this bad in the 3 years I'v been in the industry.
 
well finally got through to the network call centre... they claim its all planned upgrades.. seriously... 4 weeks of shoddy service from them and its all "planned" apparently they now working on one of their switches.. so the whole of south africa could be experiencing congestion on the data networks.. lovely... at peak times as well..... surely planned work should be done in the wee hours of the morning?
 
well my area now won't let contract sim cards connect... yet a prepaid in the same phone works... lol
 
Something is going down the toilet somewhere. If it is upgrades, would it be so difficult to post something on their website in advance stating what would be affected and where??

Data for me started working round about 20:00, but every so often I am still being disconnected
 
MTN are reworking their billing system this past month. I just contacted their VAS center and was dealing with their highest technicians today - they have but their fault down to "Had a problem with the billing system."

Love to see what is in (or not in) their fault report tomorrow about the whole story.
 
lol so i am guessing the contract number problem must have something to do with their billing system woes? *sigh*
 
Something is very wrong with MTN's data network. I use RoadSync on my E90 to stay connected to the Exchange server but the last few days this has been plagued with problems. I had to put RoadSync into manual today as my battery was drained in one day yesterday due to signal problems. I hope the problems are due to upgrades/improvements and not due to a system collapsing under its own weight.
 
As of about 6PM last night, no network coverage. Still ongoing. WTF?
 
Yip, I've had issues every day for at least a few hours each day since the 02/05/2009. It's crazy. I only work remotely, so when the data network is not working, I sit around and do nothing. It may sound great, but it means I then need to use my personal time to catch up.
 
i've also been sukkeling with MTN website last few days (several computers, different internet connection)
this morning I received an MMS from MTN (something about their 15th birthday), but it failed to be transfered in full.
I think I read somewhere that MTN's user base is now about 100million... so, ... if they trying to send everybody the MMS, no wonder the network is dying... (again)
 
Hi

Can all those having issues on the network please PM me. Remember I need specifics and I mean detailed specifics about the issue.

Like Cell numbers, whether its SMS or voice or Data. Times of the day, exact location. If its delayed SMS etc from where does the SMS originate. MTN. VC or Cell C. As much information as possible.

Dont send me stuff like "I experience dropped calls" without any information because I cannot investigate anything.
