Can you clarify: you said "VoIP is tariffed at higher rates". Vodacom definitely does NOT charge extra for VoIP packets. This is a major distinction between the two networks. Is this really the case?

I seriously doubt that MTN has the capacity or capability to do this effectively anyway.
I'll bet that this policy is probably only designed to "deter" the use of VoIP

Not exactly what I wanted to hear...

Apparently there is already 3g coverage available here (newcastle) via vodacom...

enough to drive me to suicide, or worse, to vodacom.

I've personally been a big advocate for substantial rollout in Cape Town because traditionally a number of our early adopters have been from there.

We do see EDGE as a strong contendor for areas requiring extensive coverage. We are upgrading our entire network operating system still this year and with this come the first batch of tweaks to EDGE performance. EDGE still offers faster uplinks (118 kbps vs 64 kbps for 3G) so I still use it when sending the big powerpoints!

2 issues

1. End June for East London (EDGE) - are we nearly there yet?
2. When will MTN consider a flat rate service (not based on cap), or a larger cap?
I worry about using EDGE 24/7 at home on my PC, what with potential email worms, etc I can see my monthly account hitting 10gb+ if my pc gets infected...
