Hi guys has anyone signed up for MTN FTTH in Morningside? Does it work well and how was the installation experience? I'm waiting for my ADSL contract to expire and then I might give it a try. I found a company called firestream who seems to offer better prices on the MTN FTTH network but they said Mtn isn't doing any new installation at the moment until they fix their fault logging system.

Thanks hopefully your installation goes smoothly. I remember reading an article a while back that Mweb were in talks with Mtn to offer FTTH services over the MTN FTTH network but I haven't seen anything yet. I'm surprised Afrihost aren't offering any packages but like you say hopefully more ISP's will start offering services soon.

Message from FireStream:
MTN have placed a hold on all open access orders whilst they sort out some internal operational issues.

I contacted Afrihost and you can use there DSL packages on the MTN network. So you just pay MTN for the line speed when I get connected ill give some feed back.

Looks like you have to bundle with data though, could you manage to get a line only package?

I contacted Cool ideas and cipher wave(Home connect) . They both said they are in talks with Mtn to sell their FTTH services on the MTN FTTH network but MTN has being taking their time adding them to the network. So it looks like we will eventually have better options to choose from but at the moment we will just have to wait.

I highly doubt this is the case, MTN hasn't on-boarded any other ISPs as yet. There may be miscommunication around using the DSL accounts on Telkom fibre rather which is true.

Mtn has just updated their pricing and the new prices don't seem to bad.

For anyone interested...Metrofibre is rolling out FTTH in morningside soon. They have already surveyed French lane just off bryanston drive (morningside). IF you decide to sign up just know it is an open-access network... you can select from a handful of different approved ISP's e.g Metrofibre, Greencom, Firestream, Cipherwave - . MTN is not an approved ISP offered by them though.
