I now have an idea of how the MTN G3 and GPRS packages will be structured.

The service levels and quality will be at least equal to, & 'possibly' better than that of Vodacom.

Pricing will be about 30% higher than Vodacom, but hey, remember the advantages ...

WE are MTN
WE can hide the charges in your bill
WE will tell you that we love you
WE know you love being kept in the dark.

For more information on pricing please contact the NEW & IMPROVED help desk on 082155.

i thought mtn were offering an EDGE network or something like that..in stead of 3g. an why have u posted an 082 no for an MTN helpdek....

I believe it's called sarcasm ?

Chances are the 082 number is for MTN! They certainly need help [from vodacom].

brooko - MTN offer EDGE (a 2.5G technology) already. Edge is basically a software upgrade on an existing TDMA (GSM) base station that allows for a theoretical maximum of 384k/s. If you look at an MTN phone and the CellID says "Y'ello Broadband", it basically means that the base station has been upgraded already and you can use it... You will however need a phone that supports EDGE, like the Nokia 6230..
MTN say they will be launching 3G in June. They were waiting for HSDPA to be ratified, and all their base stations will be rolled out as dual UMTS (3G)/HSDPA access points. HSDPA allows for a theoritecal max of 14MB/s, although I doubt they will offer these access speeds anytime in the near future...
Vodacom have tackled it differently - they have rolled out some UMTS base stations, and will be going backwards to upgrade all the GSM stuff to EDGE. Apparently they will be done with this by later this year, then will start rolling HSDPA. By the end of the year they should be on an even keel with each other.
Watch this space - cell networks are going to blow away iBurst/Sentech by the end of the year...
Later -

yep need a good cell cost/performance solution with my notebook.
