Mtn Gprs On Vodalive Phone?

Have you tried #123* ?

Otherwise, someone did post the mtn settings on myadsl - best to use google and you will find it

These phones are ae made for use on the Vodacom/Vodafone network only.I dont think you will find the settings for MTN.....By the way browsing is FREE when using a Vodacom sim ard on any Vodafone Live phones

Even when browsing through the PC?
 
I have used a Vodafone Live Nokia 6680 on MTN and it worked fine. Just do *123# and it should work fine.
 
I have a Vlive! GX25 and browsing on my pc worked on MTN. Dunno about MMS though, but the *123# should give that to you.

I was refering to the free browsing.

Select and Empty profile and Edit

APN: internet
Username: blank
Password: blank
Linger Time: leave as it is



Go back to MTN then Options and Select Activate

Port Number : 09201
Circuit Prompt : Disable
Connection Type : GPRS

Password: mtnmms
Linger Time: anything less 5 minutes

Go Back and activate MTN MMS


Now on your handset type the following code *123*11# Call
Although this will return an error. It will do the necessary provisioning for GPRS and MMS on the Msisdn on the MTN Network.

First dial *123*11# to provision MMS and WAP services and *123*15# to activate video calling. If you get an error stating that the network can't handle your request you have to try again later. DON'T dial again right away as you will just increase the network load and the time you have to wait. Then save the settings that is sent to you (dial *123*14# to get the settings for video streaming) or enter them as follows:

WAP Settings:
Name: MTN-WAP or something else that makes sense to you
Data bearer / Connection type: Packet data, GPRS or 3G
Access point name: myMTN
User name: mtnwap
Prompt password: No
Password: Leave blank
Authentication: Normal
Homepage: http://www.mtn.co.za/wap/
Network type: IPv4
Phone IP Address: Automatic
Name/DNS Servers: Automatic
Proxy server address: 196.11.240.251 (You can leave this out if you don't want to use a proxy or if it interferes with some application)
Proxy port number: 8080 (You can leave this out if you also leave out the Proxy server address)

MMS Settings:
Name: mtnMmsProxy
Data bearer / Connection type: Packet data, GPRS or 3G
Access point name: myMTN
User name: mtnmms
Prompt password: No
Password: Leave blank
Authentication: Normal

If you want to connect through a pc or pda you have to set your phone's pc connection access point to myMTN (or internet if you want to interchangeably switch between MTN and Vodacom SIM cards without having to change settings).

FYI both internet and myMTN APN can be used for WAP on the MTN Network. This I have tested and trust me I deal with this on a daily basis.

Secondly on that handset the port needs to be entered in as 09021. On handsets that support a later version of WAP the port needs to be set to 8080.

The setup I issued was specifically for the Sharp GX25. Settings differ on handsets.


With regard to the PC setup. Either APN will work ie internet or myMTN

I know both APN's will work as I have used both of them, but it's better to use the standard myMTN APN on a handset as there "might" be problems using the other ones. The same applies for the pc setup unless you want to switch between Vodacom and MTN without having to change the APN.

For WAP it is better not to use the proxy as some proxies give problems with some browsers or web sites. Proxies are also not very reliable. If the proxy crashes you will not have web access. The contents also aren't always up to date. Sometimes they increase your download speed if they finish downloading the file before you do, but most of the time they only request a piece of information when you request it. You pay a premium for web access so you might as well get what you pay for.

I hav a SE K750i and bluetooth and all that but I want to use the vlive settings to surf the net from my PC. I know its possible. All I need is the settings or wateva. Can anybody help me?:D ?

Welcome to the forum.

Your post is somewhat cryptic. Do u want to surf on Vodacom or MTN? For VC dial *111# and select WAP settings and for MTN dial *123*1# and also choose WAP settings.

Proxy server: 196.6.128.12
Proxy port: 8080

You have to use a browser where you can change the browser identification to something that doesn't contain the string 'mozilla'. The easiest would be Opera. But you WILL be charged for all browsing and downloading outside the live.vodafone.com portal.

I would also like to know. I think Almero thought it was still possible to surf for free using vlive. I just answered his question and think he figured out by himself that it is not. It is still useful to block out any spyware.
