In the new Yello Trader there is a HSDPA Card Offer.

F@stlink E620

Once off Data Card Cost : R1399 (WOW)

R9.99 pm (So a 24 month contract)

Sim and Connection R236.80

Data Card Features : HSDPA / 3G / Edge / GPRS

You would then buy the data bundle.
Not sure they mean Prepaid bundles, but I don't see why not.

Brilliant if you ask me.

Hi Crash

I have seen the ads and then tried to get one. A completely different story! Phoned the data call centre (answered quickly, was very friendly, sent me to Morningside). Waited for over 30 minutes at Morningside, only to be sent to The Glen. Arrived there, they said they do not offer outright sales and that MTN does not offer prepaid bundles.

I pointed to the offer breakdown on his desk (the manager no less) and he then said that it is ‘fine print’. I convinced him that an outright sale of the card is acceptable, but he then told me cash only! Saturday morning after 12:00. They accept credit cards, but not in this specific case. We could gather only 2.2 G since we have limits on our cards, and he simply told us ‘find the extra cash or leave without a card’. We left without a card.

Not a pleasant experience…

Regards,

RPM

Thanks RPM.

I thought that might be the case.
I've worked at MTN and I know the customer service is non-existant.
So I can gather that the advert is very misleading.

But

But

But.......

Morons.

The R10 a month is an actual contract Prodata or some such.

I recently applied for a MTN contract (MyCall 100) at MTN Centurion. I waited for more than a month for approval. I kept badgering them on a weekly basis. They eventually said they could not get through to my work number. I asked them to phone the number while I was standing there - surprise, surprise - they got through.

I told them I could get car finance in a day or two, why not a contract? They had all kinds of nonsensical excuses. I informed them I was cancelling my application at which point they suddenly started making promises about aprroval that same afternoon. I went through with it anyway, I didn't want that kind of service for the next two years.

I guess I must be one of the lucky few - phoned the MTN Service Centre about the card, had a visit from their rep the same day, and was up & running the following day, contract and all. Only gripe at this stage is the HSDPA coverage (or lack of it) in Cape Town. So far have only been able to connect at HSDPA in V&A Waterfront - nothing on the Foreshore (only 3G).

Here's hoping the tower upgrades are moving at an accelerated pace.
