MTN HSDPA latency on wow has improved.

MTN’s 3.6 Mbps HSDPA service is officially available, but the mobile giant has made two even bigger announcements.

I think this is why my wow latency droped with 200ms
use to be 500-800 now its 350-500 i am on the e220 modem that runs at 3.6 Mps but mtn did not suport the full 3.6 Mps saw sticky thread aboutit on mtn forums.

Wodered why my wow latency is better these days .

Well MTN 3G/HSDPA latency was never bad to begin with. That's why i was forced to move from Vodacom to MTN . I actually get fairly regularly below 400ms latency...but i'd say average more in the 600ms range (during prime time 18:00-22:00).

I'm not even sure what speed i get [1.8 HSDPA or 3.6 HSDPA] , latency good regardless.

Alot of people are constantly telling me "you can't raid on 3G" and nonsense like that. It's because all those people are on Vodacom (or attempted it 2 years ago)...trust me MTN 3G has even better latency than ADSL as of late.

I pay R500 for 2gig cap on E220 modem not bad Pitbull on the forums helped me alot at the time i got it.Hes on the forums very helpfull MTN dude wasnt for him i would be a sad Vodacom 3g used lol.
Well live next to mtn tower cant complain and onlocal DOTA server i get 30 ping latency .

It's because I use HSDPA to play wow and complained about the latency
Anyway, i get same latency as you. If I use the MTNVPN my ping goes as low as 260 But I'm to scared to use it to much Only use the VPN for raiding

What do you mean by VPN dude?

You need to apply for it I think not to sure, I'm using the Staff one. AFAIK think you can do it by phoning MTNNS I might be wrong. Phone 1555 and ask the guys you want to be provisioned for MTNVPN

Then once done you just need to change your APN to MTNVPN
But the sim needs to be provisioned afaik

I was just testing it here and there, the routing is different. So it works little better. But I might as well just stick with HSDPA that couple of ms doesn't make a difference

Got to say latency with MTN is really amazing I get from 350 - 450ms all the time, dropping to around 200ms very late at night.

Vodacom on the other hand i get around 1000 - 18 000ms, drops down to around 550ms late at night.(A lot of disconnects with it too)

Not really sure what is happening with Vodacom, too bad its with them that I have a contract.

If you can't use HSDPA use edge instead. 3G is to congested, this i have noticed at my place. My 3G is useless for latency. HSDPA is brilliant even Edge as there is just about no one using it

Try Edge next time instead of 3G

Before i knew about these forums i went to Vodacom for Hsdpa aplicatoin
i checked the coverage map the thing is full of holes one of these holes is on top of my house .
O yeah and lady at Vodacom told me no diffrence between 3g and hsdpa (was a prity girl almost had me sign the contract)like none so ever lol.

Makes a difference, all dependant on the specific tower you're using.

Well my latency is alot worse if only 3g is available then HSDPA.
Does happen once in 2 months about in my area. then i have to use 3g.
About 200 ms diffrence there between the 2.
But i am no expert.
