MTN IP ADDRESSES BLOCKED!!!

For the last 3 days i cant send mails, its appears that the ip addresses i got assigned when using my mtn 3g card are blocked..i use my own smtp provider not mail.mtn.co.za (or some such) so i call the 1555 number... after getting the run around about needing new drivers and my card being faulty i evently get someone who understands that the ip address is blocked on spamcom, but whats more interesting is he expalains that the MTN SMTP also get blocked all the time and there is nothing they can do about it.

SO I CANT GET MAILS DELIVERED ANYWHERE!

Is anyone else suffering the same problem ?
 
use the GMAIL SMTP...?

and will they allow me to connect with a dodge ip address from mtn thats listed on spamcop etc. ?

So you are using a public IP address and have problems sending e-mails ?
I'm just trying to find how the Public IP you are using is linked to you not being able to send an e-mail :confused:

For you to send e-mail via the MTN network you need to use the SMTP provided by the provider. Change your SMTP to mail.mtn.co.za and it will work ;)
 
i suspect some fine spammer used it at some stage... thats what i dont understand... why are MTN assigning IP's that are listed as spam ip's.
 
thanks Pit... but according to the 1555 guys, the mtn SMTP also gets blocked every other day so they cant say if my mails will get delivered or not.

They are not, the IP range you are referring to is not the MTN one used from internet browsing. There is another range which is listed as "MTN" check there was a thread about it.

Just change your SMTP to - mail.mtn.co.za and you will have no problem ;)

I'd love to see screenshots or an actual email log showing it was blocked to verify where this is occuring
 
Yip...looks like i have the self-same problem.. my machine public ip is on that same 40.208 ip range.. and my hosted smtp server dont like it coz its listed on spamcop, ill try using the mtn smtp and see how it goes.

but surely there are many ppl using their own SMTP's from datacards using the dynamic ip's that are blocked ?

Aha so it is that issue :)

Well think about it. How do you stop abuse on a random IP address? These international lists assume fixed IP's. Once a criminal always a criminal. It is a pain for sure but imagine how the 16million people feel that arent getting email from your spammed IP now :P

Alot of SMTP servers block dialup IPs - AOL do now and others send all mail from dialup IP databases or IPs without reverse lookups to the Junkmail.
