Condolences. My VC sim in spare phone luckily has like 6 months before it recycles.

I've always wondered when they 'remove' a number like this, is the SIM inactive on the network like when you purchase one in store before you pop it into a handset? Or is it basically useless and you get to chuck it away?
Maybe query MTN on call records and fight them on it. It doesn't seem fair to change policy without letting people know

Maybe you guys should port to Cell C prepaid, will see your screaming soon...
Cell C force you to recharge periodially. If you don't, you can't make calls, you can only receive calls. You may have R1000 of an airtime (confirmed by a balance query), but such airtime is frozen till you recharge again. When you want to make an emergency call, you will learn hard.

I have a CellC spare phone for more than 2 years already with a balance of under R100 and make a one minute call every 2 month. It's still allowing me to to call without forcing me to recharge.

That's a good option, Tks supersun.
What I have noticed Telkom basically does not expire simcards even if you port out they just allocate a new number to the sim. MTN and Cellc expire simcards very quickly especially if you don't use them as you main simcard...

I've got SIM cards from trying various networks but got no signal so they're dead.
A SIM card in my alarm (haven't bothered to put data on it so that must be dead), one in a motion activated camera I no longer use - probably dead, one in each of my 3 tablets and 2 phones ( one might be dead - hence this thread). One in a hub used for lights etc. One in a new motion activated camera.
..... and those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
