MTN launches new Internet bundles

Another day, another MTN unusable package.

"new [-]bite-sized[/-] bit-sized Internet bundles"
Fixed that for you.

I don't see the point of these tiny 10MB,50MB,100MB that expire in 1h/1day.

Are these packages legal in terms of the spirit of the the CPA and expiry of per-purchase?
 
The bundles are available for purchase at R2.00 for 20MB, R5.00 for 50MB, and R10.00 for 100MB.

Sorry MTN, but CellC offers 100MB for R15 which lasts a month, not a day.

This sees the “uncapped data” – based on a fair use policy of 150MB and valid for one day – discounted from R50.00 to R30.00.

Surely this should just be called a 150MB bundle instead of misleading the public into believing it's uncapped?
 
This simply the abuse of the term uncapped. It is only in SA that a 150MB bundle will be called uncapped.

Edit: Please hurry up Afrihost. We want you to a) offer data bundles for MTN prepaid clients and b) introduce a reasonably priced bundled voice and data package (month to month and double data).

In a perfect world Icasa would step in and stop these 5MB, 10MB, 30MB rubbish bundles, its daylight robbery and the only reason network operators are still doing it is to keep this "illusion" that there offering better value, and staying "competitive".

MTN if you want to be competitive , Drop the OOB , and lower the 1GB, 2GB, 5GB bundles, or shock the whole world with a perfect uncapped solution that's comparable to ADSL.
 
Not sure why I even bother reading about MTN 'new' data bundles... makes me sad :cry:

I don't see how they are abusing the uncapped term? Its still 128k uncapped after the 150mb data. Extremely slow but still uncapped. I think they are the only network in SA that offers this type of bundle though so say what you want but something is better than nothing I think. I won't buy it because the speed is too slow but some people might find it useful.

At 150MB, it slows to a capped rate. I have found I can do just over a GB on this package if I run for the 24 hours. Cell C's 1GB after midnight costs R10 and does the same thing at a third of the price.
 
MTN you are fked up. But the fair usage policy will never come into effect because your crap signals are 99% of the time edge only.
Stop lying about things and stop misleading people.
Your lte coverage map and in fact your 3g coverage maps are blatant lies.

Not defending MTN, but unfortunately that's your opinion.

99% of the time most are connected to at least a 3G network, which makes a limit of 150MB even more of a sin.

You and I are techies - we realise what the limitations of this package mean. How does the average South African understand this deal? To this person, the term uncapped might be misleading. 128k is extremely slow and barely usable. We know that. I'm not sure the average person realise this.I just don't think the term should be used in this manner.

Tell me what you can do with a 128kbps connection. I doubt Gmail will even load.

MTN are banking on the fact that users will get frustrated with the barely usable bottleneck and buy more data bundles.

I'd forgive them for enforcing their FUP at 1GB, but calling a ceiling limit of 150MB for uncapped data is nothing short of a crime.

Indeed I will actually burn the simcard out of frustration. I will never be able to handle that slow speed. It is interesting that they reduced it by R20 which means it was over priced all this time.... R30 is still a bit over priced. R10 or R15 is more where it should be considering the speed capping.

I guess they just had to launch something similar to Cellc's daily deals and Vodacom power bundles because they need customers. People won't leave if you can get the same deals on one network.

I find MTN LTE and 3G to be about the best. Its almost never congested and the R299 for 3GB+3GB is not a bad deal considering you can extend the 3GB data expiry date by just buying another bundle. That and 60c a minute with the MTN R3 (R15+15mb) wow bonus daily makes MTN about the cheapest network to use with decent data speeds.

Vodacom 79c forfeit all the on net bonuses and 30day data expiry I just don't see how that can compete directly with MTN
