First off, I hope it's alright for me to post about Steam here in the MTN section, but it seems to be an MTN issue. If it's needed, the mods can move the thread over to the gaming section :)

Alright, so I've been playing Black Ops 2 multiplayer without any issues for the past 2 weeks, MTNs held up great and my 'fast data' kicked in on the 14th. Even before that, while I had no 'fast data', I had no lag issues or anything. So it started 3 days ago that when I enter a match, I immediately get extreme lag, so I Alt+Tabbed out to see what MTN was doing and it was barely uploading or downloading. Here's a screenshot to give you folks an idea:

As you can see, that's pretty horrible. So other than that, the strangest thing is right before all this happened, when I took a speed test, I'd be getting at least +8mb DL and around 2mb UL speeds when I haven't hit my cap. Now this is what it looks like:

So all in all, the connection isn't what it used to be. And I've had this MTN Lite thing for almost 7 months now, so this is the first major issue to pop up for me. But my biggest gripe is the fact that, when playing multiplayer, MTN doesn't utilize its maximum speeds like it used to. The speeds just hang there, like an idiot.

Oh, and I played with the network settings in the MTN menu, but nothing seems to change.

Has anyone else had experiences like this the past few days?

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks for looking :)

MTN LITE

Hey Bro,

i love the game that you are playing, i enjoy it too, now reading the problem that you are experiancing and the time frame you have been using it. it depends with your usage or the network traffic that can slow down your speed espeacially on this time of the season the speed gets too much dropped due to network traffic.

but thank for using MTN, if you have other problems just inbox me and i will make time to go through it together.

the modem switched to wcdma from hspa. When the modem is on wcdma the ping and speed are horrendous, hspa is fine. I am not 100% certain on why this happens but as far as I know the tower tells the modem to switch when there has been some inactivity to conserve spectrum. If the modem is active and its switching its probably due to stress on the network, tower or signal issues. Best thing you could do is set up a continuous ping on command prompt to keep the connection active while you are playing - bare in mind doing this for long periods could use up some data. open command prompt, type ping www.google.co.za -t (or any other website). I just did it now my modem was on wcdma - ping was 600 odd ms, then it switched to hspa and the ping was 190ish. As for a long term solution I could suggest an external antenna - dont know if this will stop the switch to wcdma though. Otherwise just hope MTN fiddles with the tower ;)

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. MTN-Lazola seems to be correct in the fact that there's just too much damn traffic. I tested the game again at 1am and all was well, no problems. MTN stayed on HSPA, which was awesome. I tried it again the next day in the afternoon and chaos, I lost connection the whole time. So in the mean time, I'm gonna try that continuous ping command prompt. Thanks SAdata and MTN-Lazola :)
