Last year I received a bill from MTN for R4600 and asked them to please check the data usage they had charged me for before I pay as it seemed like they had made a mistake to me. I requested this a number of times and was told that they would get back to me. They then proceeded to block my sim and never did contact me again. They still invoiced me for the following two months and I queried these invoices too. December they charged me R2900 on a sim that isn't even being used. I never received any reply from them or another invoice in January. Today I receive a final demand for payment of R17K + from attorneys. WTF?!? I asked them numerous times just to please check my data charges before I pay them and instead of getting back to me this happens. Now what does one do in this situation? At a loss here to be quite frank.

Yeah they screwed up my bill as well.... Not as bad as that though.

If they made a mistake or not with my bill is not the issue. The fact that it was R4600 when I queried it and got cut off and that they never responded and now lay it thick with a R17K bill is just madness.

Just remember that if they locked your line there is no way in which activity could have taken place unless a sim swap was done on your simcard and the line reactivated. If this is true then its fraud and they can not hold you liable for the account. Good luck

Hopefully you got reference numbers and names. Something I learnt you need with MTN.

This always works www.hellopeter.com. Well nearly always

Doesn't work any-more. hellopeter has become a site where companies pay to copy and paste responses.

Thats what I did - been on prepaid for six or so months now - Vodacom don't seem to want to stock contract phones like the HD2

No sim swap or reactivation took place. I have the sim safe at home.

You and everyone else, fortunately I wasn't hit too badly, though this still has me worried. VC, here I come (after a decade with MTN)!

I question why MTN is issuing lawyers letters when they know full well that their billing system is screwed up? Do they want to chase customers off?

Fortunately - its been six months and they haven't invoiced me since closing my account - so I assume everything was correct :)

I'm still sitting with a bill of R14k+, call was logged in December, and have not had even so much as a phone call. I called again today, only to be told that they will be discounting my bill by R1k. That is still hopelessly inaccurate. If the billing department ever does contact me, I am going to request statements for the last 6 months and go over them with a fine tooth comb. Until then my lines will just have to stay suspended I guess :(

1k is a slap in the face!

Consumer Protection Act is near!

Has Carte Blanche done a story yet? Or is their sponsorship paying off?

Sounds like you have a very similar situation to mine. They will send you a final notice from their attorney's soon. Joy

I am back on VC prepaid and will stay on prepaid I think. Getting fcked over like this is NOT fun.

Considering my average spend is around the R2k mark, how on earth can they come up with an amount like that? I can clearly see the 2GB data bundle on my account, yet every month it simply rolls over, and I get billed out of bundle rates for everything...
