Since last week, or was it the week before? when the MTN network went AWOL, i have been having extreme difficulty getting any kind of use out of my phone, I barely receive calls - they go straight to voice mail and i get an sms about an hour later - 95% of the time when i try and call someone i get a Network busy signal, repeated attempts to call the same number eventually results in a connection after a pause of about 15-20 seconds.

Initially i thought it was my phone, but i have now tried three different phones and am still getting the same results

Anyone else experiencing this or anything similar ?

** FYI - This is in Cape Town City Bowl

I'm having exactly the same problem, posted this question in the MTN thread a few weeks ago with no response, so for a while thought it was just me, even though i use 2 phones. Its so bad i'm looking at porting.

i thought it was ok too, until last night a whole bunch of people told me they had been trying to get hold of me since this morning, and i had no idea what they were talking about.

same here!

my phone says "network busy"...

And sometimes not even getting sms' for the voicemails, only realise there's a message when I get a sms for a voicemail and realises that there are 3 voicemails!

Maybe someone stole the tower? Everything is fine with my phone even when I was down in Cape Town 2 weeks ago

i tried phoning MTN helpline... (173)... took about 4 times to connect. once connected (after giving me 4 options, PUK, data, etc), in stead of connecting to an operator one gets a "the number you have dialled is incorrect" and then the call drops.

i'm getting quite irritated now... this has been going on since last week...

this is all in Cape Town CBD...

Was gonna start a new thread but this seems a fitting place to post.

Tried calling a friend tonight on the MTN network around 9pm from my Vodacom and MTN cell phones, but all i got (after it rings for a while) was, "The number you have dialled is incorrect. Please check the number and dial again."

Phoned another friend to phone the person in question and she heard the same message when trying to get thru.

Anyone else experiencing this type of thing recently?
[EDIT:]
Ok, I found out that the number in question is a port from MTN to Cell C, so it could be a problem on either network.
