MTN "Network Notifications"

Hi.
In the last day or so I have been getting these EXTREMELY IRRITATING "Network Notifications" from MTN saying 'spend x amount and get y amount free' - and a USSD code.
They come through with a loud sound at irregular times or when I use my phone.
I have switched off cell broadcasts on the phone but that doesn't stop them coming through (they may be less, not sure)
How in heaven's name do I stop this? Its extremely annoying - especially since its so loud. I really don't want to have to put my phone on silent just to avoid this?
MTN prepaid. I tried calling the network but gave up after holding 20 minutes with no reply..
