MTN - Number Porting

Hello

I want to port a Vodacom prepaid number to an existing MTN contract. I port the Vodacom number to MTN prepaid, once the number is ported to MTN prepaid can MTN then change the existing contract's number to the ported number?

Can this be done?

I want to do the same thing but they told me it can't be done and I'll lose the number currently associated to the contract.
