Hi all
I'm a newby to broadband and am absolutely amazed at the improvement over dial-up. Not surprising I suppose.
My question and request for help.
I have a Vodacom Option card and my service provider is MTN. It works but I cannot get the other programs to work i.e. manage the time I have left in the data bundle etc.
Any ideas.

Use the vodacom software. The software monitors the modem device and not the actual SIM card. Give it a shot. Works for me!

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I'm doing just that but the Software keeps asking me to change the SIM card.

I chatted to one of my peons this morning and he uses the MTN software witha vodacom PCMCIA card and his MTN SIM. He recons that the software works great and gives his a rough guide of what he uses. He also mentioned that Vodascum has a web page that you can check your actual usage on. Maybe MTN has one too or your service provider? I'm not all that fussed as I use my 3g for emergencies only. Sorry I can't be more help!

Thanks for the help.
I subsequently deleted and reloaded the Voda program, but without the sim card in. I then started the program and only then extracted the data card and inserted the sim and Viola! it's-a-working. Not the most informative, but OK.
Question-why do people use MTN with Vodacom cards? Is it because of better coverage or costs?
Regards and thanks again.

No problemo! Glad you got it sorted, doesn't REALLY matter how. As long as it works. People sometimes buy second hand 3G devices or move to a new area or office and the reception is better on another network. What the hay is there that much difference between our networks? I actually have a Vodascum data contract but my voice contract is with MTN. So if I find myself in a bad reception area on one of the devices I swap out and use the other network. :)

Im also a noob to HSDPA and just wanna know:
is my Huawei E272 (Vodafone branded) HSDPA Device Network locked?
Cause i cant seem to get it working with an MTN SIM - its says: "wrong sim inserted"
Should I enable the MTN SIM somehow?? (Ive never used MTN, cause i have always used vodacom....but for Internet i want to use the MTN network..)

Mine used to give the same message even though it is not locked but it worked anyway.

But how?

well how did you get it working with an MTN SIM, did you create a connection manually?

I actually found the data card manufacturers (option) software and used that.

Hi I had a E620 MTN that worked fine and well with all networks and I recently got a E220 vodafone but only works on vodacom only and I am frustrated now. How can I get the Vodafone E220 working with my MTN SIM?

Try This... connect thru windows instead of the vodafone software...

Start

Control Panel

Network Connections

On extreme left select Create a new connection

Select Next

Select Connect to the internet Select Next

Select Setup connection manually Select next

Connect using a dial-up modem Select Next

Select the Relevant Modem (Huawei) Next

ISP Name MTN Select Next

Phone No *99# Select Next

Username Password Blank Select Next

Click Finish

Select Dial to Connect

You can then open up INTERNET EXPLORER and browse.
