I needed to test Data Service MTN functionality so I bought a MTN pre paid SIM.
I plugged it into my spare phone and went about adding some airtime, first off from Standard bank's online banking I could not add a bundle as it did not recognise the 078 number.
I then tried registering on the MTN web site but I wanted to confirm my cell number using the *126*2515# service first...the service was not available,
So I called 173 and held on listening to the MTN whistling tune (give me Pet shop boys any day..) for 9 minutes, then I was told to call 141 and activate the SIM card..
I called but 141 does not exist according to the voice prompt..
I called 173 again and listened to more whistling (it really sucks) and was told this time that the SIM cards needs 24 hours to activate from when you put your phone on….
Compare that to the Vodacom Pay as you go SIM I purchased..
Plugged it into the phone, went to Standard banks site, bought airtime, called 155 to get the card Data Enabled and 3 hours later I was connected.
Well, I guess I wanted to know what MTN was like, now I know....
EDIT: it seems the number to verify the cell number changes, I tried again and it worked the next time around but the number was *126*1166# (I think)
Still does not explain why I cant top up from SBSA. Have PM'd you MTN_D_D, thanks for the quick response!!
