A colleague and myself ported from FNB to MTN in April to MTN Bonanza Prepaid Package. Now MTN prepaid and data/voice minutes is the most deliberately confusing situation. Basically if you change plan to Pay per Second, this is only applicable if you use airtime, but if you recharge with a voice minutes then it is per minute billing or so they tell you from the call center 135. HOWEVER this too is not correct. I have procured Voice minutes and so has my colleague since 28 and 25 April 2022 respectively the voice minute packages deduct 75 seconds per minute on the phone. That is 25% more than the stated per minute billing. Attached are 2 pages from my bills where on the 3/5/2022 you can see per second billing on airtime and the 4/5/2022 you can see the 75s/60s billing. The other page is the latest and the error seems to continue.
I have logged 3 calls with MTN so far and had no response. My colleague has contacted the National Consumer Council who just said contact ICASA. ICASA only forwards MTN responses on to him and takes no view or seems to evaluate the MTN responses for facts.
I have bought a MTN sim card and I am attempting now to see if the problem is with porting as we did or is it a common problem across all prepaid plan. or just with the per second billing plan.
So my question is this:
Does anybody else check their bills that are on pre paid?
Do you buy voice minutes? (They do offer good prices like 250 per 800 minutes but no sure if there is value due to the billing)
What plan (Bonanza, Pay Per Second, etc) are you on and do you have the same problem?
I would really like to know if this is specific to us or a greater problem?
Looking forward to your posts
