Has anyone been getting short adverts played to them when they make outgoing calls with MTN? It's not every call, every now and then, like every 20 calls or whatever.

Personally I think it's an absolute disgrace, I don't see why contract customers should be subject to adverts when they make calls.

Agreed.
Dit maak rerig my gathare taai om na hulle LTE advertensies te luister.. grrrr

What are they advertising? Their own services or third party ads?

Doesn't make sense to advertise their own service to someone already on their network.

Either way, it's not on to do this unless the calls are subsidised.

Are you charged to listen to those ads?

Time is money. If you are paid R1500 by your employer for an 8 hour day. That works out to above R3 a minute. If the advert is 15 seconds, and you hear 4 adverts a day that works out to at least R12 they owe your employer. Considering a 22 day working month, they owe your employer at least R264 a month.

If you think the maths above is bad, you have to consider that our time is on per minute billing

I don't make calls very often, but do that to me and I would take it as breach of contract and end it.

Boycott any company that advertises via this channel

Happened to me a couple of times on my company phone. Thought it was the other guys voicemail or something

hmm, wonder if this could be used to get out of my contract with them ?
They'll probably point me to something in my contract I signed giving them permission to advertise on my number.

They will probably tell you that they play those ads while they make the connection or the recipient's phone is ringing. I doubt that such behaviour is in their T&C's though and should be challenged (irrespective of contract or prepaid).

I spend most of my day on the phone, and never came across this, hopefully they don't add this to contract users. I didn't sign up for that sh...

This is for pre-paid as well.

I have had it happen twice ... both times when wanting to make a quick phone call.
I then have to wait for this advert to finish before my call is made.
What if it was an emergency? This ought not be allowed under any circumstances.

You just answered my question - they actually delay the call!?! not just play ads until the other person answers?!? BIG NO-NO if they delay calls! Try advertise life insurance before they answer your 112 emergency... or your neighbours house is burning and you are trying to phone them to wake them and their kids... :wtf:
