I had my Sony Ericsson W910i for 9 days on an MTN contract and the screen packed up. I was told that I had dropped it which I hadn't. It was sent off 2 months ago for repairs and I am stuck paying rental for a phone I don't have. Any suggestions

Call the place where it was sent (You do have like, a repair log / sheet)
And find out what is going on with the phone.

Thanks, yes I've done that already countless times and I am being fobbed off constantly, e.g. they only received it 3 weeks after it was sent, it was with the technician for 2 weeks apparently in his hand and now waiting for spares. Tired of their excuses now.

This seems to be standard operating procedure with MTN repairs. A friend of mine was without his N95 for 3 months. The whole time he was being told one lie after another regarding the status of his phone. At least the phone seems to be working now, but 3 months for a repair that should take less than a week is disgusting.

Keep a log of each time you phone and write down excuses you get given.
By now, you should have a nice long list.
Call, demand to speak to a supervisor or something higher, explain everything nicely, tell him you got a list of times you've called and excuses, you want to know what is going on with your phone NOW (be nice but stern)
Demand some action!

I bet you'll get sorted now... if not, wait for a day or so (to give them a chance to do something) then start finding out about more information about the company and then start taking it further.

What also helps is posting a nice thread here on MyBB, but doing it properly, explaining in detail everything.
Then showing the company in question!
They don't like to see their name mentioned somewhere where there are 10000000's of views a day.

Been there, done that...got the "been there done that" t-shirt to proof it.

I just gave up, threw the phone in a desk drawer, bought myself a spare one, at the end of november when my contract expires its buh bye MTN.

Maybe virgin mobile where I am not tied in on a contract

I also cancelled my MTN contract, I'll rather stay with Vodacom.

But just remember, the phone might be on contract with them and come under a warranty, but it's not THEM who fixes the phone, if you take your cellphone into a Vodacom shop, they send it to a place that is 'authorised' to repair it.

You can only fight with Vodacom 'so much' because it's not 'them' who the problem goes with, the fight is the 'authorised' dealership who repairs the phone, take them on!

I know that, but the problem is, this phone is unrepairable, no matter how many times they send it in, it still comes back, same problem as before....then it becomes their problem.

And as the one call centre incompetent person told me, its not their problem, I can buy a new phone, or borrow one

Dude, if that phone is under warranty, they WILL fix it!
I don't care who does it, I'll demand Vodacom exchange it for a newer model then!
