How does one stop MTN from spamming?
So far I have received 1x SMS & 2x MMS messages from them regarding their ripoff competition.
Edit:
Called MTNSP (808) and a woman told me to SMS "Stop" to 37187. Guess what, I got a response that I won a ring tone, whoopie! R7.50 down the crapper.
I'm spitting fire right now!
Edit2: *^&%$^%$%*(& Another 4 SMS messages just followed.
My wife got 2 mms from them. Wasted our time going on the net to view the mms.
I can't believe they would have you spend R7.50 to UNSUBSCRIBE??? That is theft!
MTN, your network reliability has gone for a ball of s**t in the last few weeks and this spamming from you is the last. It will be back to Vodacom in July when my contract matures.
EDIT: Spoke to Alfie on 808 now. He ASSURED me the STOP sms to 37187 is free. Well it isnt! Checked on my prepaid sim and I got charged immediately! Also got this "you won a ringtone crap."
Off to hellopeter then...
2.20. A “premium-rated service” is any service charged at a higher rate that the standard rate set by the network operator for that particular service.
2.25. A “wireless application service provider” is any person engaged in the provision of a mobile service, including premium-rated services, who signs a WASP contract with a network operator for bearer services enabling the provision of such services.
4.1.8. Customer support may not be provided via premium rated numbers, and may only be provided via standard-rate or VAS-rate numbers.
5.1.5. Once a recipient has opted out from a service, a message confirming the opt-out should be sent to that recipient. This message must reference the specific service that the recipient has opted-out from, and may not be a premium rated message.
6.2.4. Pricing contained in an advertisement must not be misleading. If multiple communications are required to obtain content, then the advertised price must include the cost for all communications required for that transaction. A clear indication must always be given that more premium messages are required.
6.2.5. The price for a premium rated service must be easily and clearly visible in all advertisements. The price must appear with all instances of the premium number display.
6.2.6. Unless otherwise specified in the advertising guidelines, the name of the WASP or the information provider providing the service must appear in all advertisements for premium rated services.
6.2.9. During any calendar month, if the total cost of any service exceeds R200 for that month:
1. Where the WASP is in control of the billing (e.g. an OBS), an additional communication is required from the customer, confirming acceptance of any costs over this amount, prior to any additional costs being billed.
2. Where the WASP is not in control of the billing (e.g. the customer sends an SMS to a premium rated number), the member must send a notification to the customer once they have reached this limit.
7.2.4. Children’s services must not unduly encourage children to ring or procure other premium rate services or the same service again.
After getting spammed again (and this AFTER I unsubscribed two weeks ago, or so I thought) I called 808 on Saturday night asking that the supervisor call me back regarding this problem. The operator assured me the supervisor would return my call "in 24 hours". Obviously he didn't![]()
