Hi folks

AS part of this year’s broadband survey we need a few tests using the “Line Speed Meter” It will be great if you can install the Line Speed Meter, run a few tests and post your results URL.

http://www.tcpiq.com/tcpIQ/LineSpeed/Download/

The more tests the better, but even if you can just run one or two tests it will help tremendously.

Just for good measure we will throw in two MP3 players for two lucky testers :D

Regards,

RPM

MTN GPRS;

Download speed; 6.06 KBits/sec
0.76 KBytes/sec

Upload speed; 2.79 KBits/sec
0.35 KBytes/sec

DNS Speed 1431.00 mSec

Latency 0.00 mSec
------------------------------------
But the first page shows: D/L speed: 41.4 Kbits/sec
U/L speed: 21.7 Kbits/sec

Number of tests 1
Download speed 315.39 KBits/sec or 39.42 KBytes/sec
Upload speed 89.39 KBits/sec or 11.17 KBytes/sec
DNS Speed 0.00 mSec
Latency 0.00 mSec

Most annoying is the upload speed that is capped currently.

Thanks for the tests so far! Please keep them coming (URL's will be great)

Now that speed test web site is dumb!

I've tried (several times) setting up a profile using my cable connection at work ..... I can not get the unique number that has to be entered.

So I tried again using my N95, set to UTMS, via cable to laptop, and performed all the set up .... still no profile number supplied.

Sorry RPM ... no test results from me.

Your details have been successfully updated.

In summary, your Internet connection is:

Line Speed Meter User Id: 2007-09-11-01-18-41-487-xxx
Country: South Africa
Broadband Provider: MTN HSDPA
Technology: 3G W-CDMA
Speed: 1800Kbits/sec down, 384Kbits/sec up
Connection shared: No
Postcode / Zip Code: 02163

You are now ready to run the Line Speed Meter!

....... NOT!!

hmm.. I'm rather dubious about this test... :o

I just ran it again (see my link in previous post) and yea.. it's showing me some pretty incredible speeds .. OK 1489.79 KBits/s is not impossible on HSDPA and I have before gotten speeds around there.. but 814.54 KBits/s upload??
MTN's upload is limited to 50 or 60 KBits/s and AFAIK HSDPA in general has a maximum upload speed of around 384KBits/s ..

This app surely doesn't cache or anything does it? - That would be a little thick on the developers part.. :p

Maybe it's Qemu doing some caching of it's own..

EDIT: OK.. it's definitely incorrect ... I ran the test a third time and this time it gave me 3000Kbps downstream!! - Would be nice if it was real.. ;)
Too bad I guess my test data will have to be scrapped.. :(

I did a 4th test now, after clearing my cache just to see that this test is the same as test 2 and 3. How can they all be the same, tests 2 and 3 has a 5 hour gap inbetween.

This is the result form SpeedTest.net - What is interesting is all the IP's from MTN(196.11.241.45) seem to be locked in at 60Kbits uploading speed.

That sucks!
