MTN suspends service provider

MTN has suspended the services of a company which is alleged to be involved in battery theft at the operator's base stations.

In order to protect equipment at its towers, MTN appointed Bidvest Protea Coin as the main contractor to oversee security at its base stations.

I hope this turns into a series of updates. Thabang's manager, Franshua, must be new to illegal side hustles if she got all her subordinates running errands for her. Eventually, some will get fired or sufficiently pissed off to blow the operation.

Something doesn’t sound right about how this is being handled. Unless there’s more to the story. At the moment it sounds like someone sent a tweet, then an immediate suspension of the company was effected.
Or did I miss something?

So you're suggesting the theft carries on until someone can verify that they are indeed stealing.

There could be some prima facie evidence they based their decision on besides the tweets.

No, he is saying that a tweet does not look like enough evidence to act on. But maybe MTN reserves their rights in such incidents.

Wouldn't you agree that such an inflammatory claim deserves such a response? I reckon MTN is right to suspend such a company's services considering it's a major issue which is costing them in the hundreds of millions in just security, never-mind lost business and customer dissatisfaction...

This is assuming it’s true or at least if the tweet has been verified.
But if it’s just based on the tweet and no other evidence, I believe in that instance you can’t just stop a company and affect lots of other jobs.

99% of Criminal activities will lead you to someone inside.

Why is Bidvest Protea coin able to subcontract.
Just tells me the tender is really fat and ripe for skimming off the top.

The is just no way this theft will ever be stopped with so many people on the network, no one knows who the next person is and what they are doing. Sometimes I feel the theft is part and parcel of the business model, open things up to create even more opportunities for thieves and even more opportunities for contractors to fix the mess left behind by the thieves.

"It said it had spent more than R100 million to clamp down on acts of theft and vandalism in 2019"

The "cost" of dong business in Africa
One wonders WHO picks up the tab at the end of the day ?

It is at times like this -- and looking at the complete and utter mess of -- "New" South Africa that I think that the WRONG people lost the WWII

Is it "Genocide" ?
or
Are we saving the planet ...????
