MTN you cannot pick the device?

So one of my MTN Anytime contracts was due for an upgrade the 1st of November. Walked into the Cellnetworks MTN Store upper level of Centurion mall, and got one of the chaps to order me the Galaxy 10.1 Note last week.

Today I went to go and collect, only to be informed I cannot get that device on the Anytime contracts? What? Why is this still an problem? I already have the S3 and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

I have 4 contracts with MTN and I've personally been with MTN since 1995.

And then she suggests that I could convert my Anytime contract to a 1Gb data contract? Anytime to data? Oh, wait, then I load airtime manually?

A bit upset, but lets see how they fix this.

I haven't noticed this... I converted my regular contract to a top-up contract after 6 months with no changes in my debit order.

Bit of a con that, all it is is a cap on your spending... nothing else. How can they justify a difference.

yes thats what i thought when i read it. they essentially penalising you for not taking a normal contract. pathetic and petty. they thinking up new ways of screwing us out of our money.

With the top-up they know you can never spend more than R179 per month.
They are hoping you rather take the normal contract and spend (a lot) more than R169 per month.

I woudl go with this as well as they probably don't want you to know when you start getting into OOB charges. That's probably why they prefer you on a contract rather than top up

I've been using contracts for years now. I believe if you make sure you upgrade in month 20, it works out cheaper.

Also at least I know I can look forward to something new every 20 months, no matter how bad the budget is looking at that point.

And the day you want to leave they add up all those months and say pay or stay a little longer

PS all the networks will do that, its not unique to anyone and not another.

Yup, beware of this. Upgrading early three times in a row equals a whole extra year you'll be stuck with your old phone.
