Hey guys, I saw a posting by MTN3G today! Wow. He/She is still alive (or back from lunch). Now perhaps we will get some answers to all the questions asked in all the other threads in this forum.

I am not holding my breath.

Any comment MTN3G?

Good day MTN3G

I sent a few weeks in JHB work wise... and noticed that the entire JHB region is a 3G hot spot, but in CPT there are only four places nl. Vangaurd, N1 City, Cape Gate area and Kennelworth.

What's happening with upgrading CPT?

The other question I have is with regards to the princing, R2 on contract and R3 on prepaid. Does the contract rate apply to all contracts across the board?

Vodacom's video calls rates stayed exactly the same, although the payin on the 3G enabled phone are sky high, but that's becuase Vodacom buys the handset's from MTN, not so?????

You reply would be greatly appreciated

Voadcom's video call rates remained the same because their billing system can't handle it yet, or so I heard anyway.

Good question ItsMe - I'd like to know about this as well. (Seems as if MTN forgot about Cape Town...)

I do not know how you managed to get coverage at any of the above locations though - they're not on the coverage map and I've been to some of those areas lately - with no coverage. To my knowledge only the Cape Town CBD, Century City and the Airport has coverage.

I am talking purely fro hear say... but the MTN network has different providers of base station hardware and it seems some are more difficult to upgrade than others...

MTN uses only Ericsson base stations.
Vodacom uses Siemens and Motorola AFAIK.

For 3G networks you don't simply upgrade the GSM network - it is a full scale roll-out of a new network with completely new equipment. Due to different radio planning considerations (interference, capacity, range, penetration) you can also not necessarily re-use existing GSM locations (towers, buildings, etc.) for 3G. You will need new physical locations which requires municipal, landowners, community, aviation and environmental approval. Then you need Eskom or municipal power and Telkom backhaul.

Why does stuffing Telkom have to be involved in everything, wish they would just vanish.....

I really think this is BAD... MTN doesnt really care then, if they know about the forum, cause they did have someone here before

hmm, ok, but still, look at Vodacom3G, he is cool!

I sent MTN3G this mail:

I regret to inform you that I will also be moving to Vodacom. The reason
is your poor participation on the MyADSL forum and the bad service
within your call centre. This is after many years with MTN. You should
treat your customers better.

I got this response:

I am sorry about the bad service you have been experiencing. We have
been putting in place a company wide process to respond to MyAdsl
website, where we are sure about having the capacity. This will be
launched on 1 February, with all the systems to ensure that we can
particularly respond to coverage issues.

I want to re-assure you that we value your business, it is just
unfortunate that we have not had the systems in place to cope with the
demand that the site places on our resources. However, we will be in a
position to have the capacity from the 1'st of February to cope with the
service levels that our customers deserve.

Thanks for the correspondence. If there are any specific enquiries,
please don't hesitate to mail me.

Is MTN Network Solutions hosting MyAdsl now? ("demand that the site places on our resources") rather an odd reply you got there at least there was a reply.

Well at least someone is getting a respone then ..... pity its not on the forum, so do we need to PM him all our queries?

Yes, I also found it odd. It only about 2 posts a day here? Then it is usually questions that are easily available or at least should be easily available?

Guess we have to wait for 1 Feb to get another MTN rep.

until the next rep gets blasted with problems and drops one or two in his rods and runs hehehehe
