Hi.

Welcome back....

Could you possibly chase the P990i query (see thread) as a priority ?

Thanks ;)

The Sony Ericsson P990i with software version R7A001 has been provisionally approved on MTN,

with subject to the resolution of the USIM phonebook compatibility issue which Sony Ericsson is aware of and will have to come up with a fix.

This handset will be approved under the same proviso as the P990. I am just waiting for the evaluation team to come back to us.

Hi MTNDD,
I'm not sure where to ask this, so I'm putting it into this "general non-specific" thread.

I live in Claremont, Cape Town, and for all the years that I've been here, the cellphone signal that I get is variable, usually poor to almost unusable. I have queried the problem in the past, and even had a call from an MTN technician a couple of years ago to tell me that a new mast would be going up in my area, and reception problems would "soon" be a thing of the past. It seems extraordinary to me that I should have this problem when I live in one of the major urban centres in South Africa. My partner works from home, and for him, the poor reception is actually a business problem on frequent occasions.

Are you able to make enquiries for me to see if any improvements are proposed? You'll obviously need to know more about where I live, so as to pinpoint the problem more clearly. Perhaps via private messaging?

Thanks very much

Good day,

If you can give me the ref # it will make it a little easyer to follow up if you don't have one you might have to log a coverage query again

You have missed out on the news reports of the residents protests against cellphone masts being erected close to them in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town.

They want their cellphones but nobody wants to be living next to the towers.

MTN DD welcome back. :)
Could we ask whats the latest release date for the new Blackberry (8700V/G?)?
The previous estimate was end Sept..... now October, is it ready now?
Is MTN's testing different to Vodacom, who's had this unit for quite some time already?
Tks a lot!

No, unfortunately I can't. This was probably something like two years ago. Just the very thought of having to go through the delights of the call centre to log another coverage query makes me want to not bother.

But thanks anyway.

Claremont and Rondebosh

I have also had the same problem and very dissappointed in MTN.

I just bought me a new HSDPA card,...and get nothing close to the HSDPA rates expected! I would have thought that in such a populated area of Cape Town, at least better coverage can be expected. I hate to think that others in smaller areas of South Africa can expect!

After signing up for a 1 GIG service, I am not too impressed, maybe this is because I am comparing it to a Vodacom HSDPA card I also have, which works perfectly!

The worse thing is that I fell for the MTN sales pitch when they said, that the coverage was excellent!!! I warn everyone in future to please make sure of their coverage, even if they live in a densly populated area, like Rondebosh and Claremont, don't assume anything, like I did and get caught with your pants down.

I am starting to feel that this cheap data card offering by MTN is just a trap to lock people in and provide them with poor service.

As if this will really help

Maybe just better to pass it on, look for some other like jasjar or something like samsung p900 :D SE have disappointed me completely. Say Bye to a MTN/SE fan MTNDude!

I guess in some ways I was a stupid customer, for not dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's....but I thought that for a big company, surely they are well covered especially in the Cape Town area.......but sad to say I was mistaken.

I have to hand it to MTN, they do a great sales pitch, with a very cheap data card offering, but I understand now why they can sell their cards for R9.99 on subscription for 2 years.

I feel that this sort of service from a "respected" company like MTN is really bad, and misleading.

BTW : I phoned them yesterday, and they said it would only be upgraded in Feb 2007! By then telkom would have had their WIFI probably up and running.
My issue is the advertising versus the actual service delivery is not matching.........sadly MTN has let South Africans looking for good bandwidth down.

What are you actually complaining about?

Paying R9.99 for a Data Card?

Not getting signal on the data Card?

Not getting 3G in your area?

Sean

I am complaining about

1. No HSDPA in a densely populated area in Cape Town
2. Sales pitch, that coverage was excellent ( my bad, because I should have checked this )
3. After complaining, I was told HSDPA will only be rolled about by the earliest Feb 2007!
4. The number of customers, that will be buying the card, and falling to the same trap like me, in being unhappy about not getting what was expected.

I guess my comparison was with Vodacom, which generally is well covered in the country and I have a Vodacom card too, but it was the price from MTN that caught my eye, but I understand the price now, compared to the coverage...

So I am just not too impressed, that's all.

I have to agree with you on some points.

Each MTN shop is a private franchise so there is an incentive to lie to get the sale. Not all are like that and some will go the extra mile to get the info for you. The best place to go it the MTN Service Centre next to Canal Walk. They are very jacked up there. Unfortunately it is a "walk in centre".

Also the MTN 3G footprint map is not that good. It might look as if you are in a good area only to find what is shown on the map is 2km away from you.

Good day,

The one thing I can't take is when a dealer or franchise misleads a customer there's nothing worse - Sell MTN the right way tell the customer the truth that's all that matters.........
