Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has reportedly been appointed first deputy chair of the African Union (AU) executive council.

The appointment was made at the AU assembly summit in Ethiopia.

According to the Herald, Mugabe’s election to the post positions him to assume the AU chairmanship next year.

The council is made up of foreign affairs ministers and meets twice a year.

The report said the veteran leader’s appointment rendered futile a decision by the European Union not to invite him to a summit of the two blocs set for Belgium in April.

The AU Executive Council was firm in that Europe should not be allowed to dictate to African heads of state and government who will attend the summit, the report said.

Mugabe is the current SADC deputy chair and will chair the regional bloc from next year’s summit.

The biggest question is why he is looting, He has more money than he and his family will ever need. But is still raiding and raping the country.

People are hungry in Zim, So they decided to start planting food in open areas, Bob has now decided that it is his food and will take all the land the people are trying to survive on.

He is a dick. A huge one. That country is praying for him to fall over. The only problem is the other faction in the government. Who is similar to Bob. ( the leader of the troop the minister of defense. He is in on the looting and corruption, if bob dies he might take out the Lady bob wants to be his successor.
Nobody understands why she is to follow him as she is seen as the polar opposite of what he stands for.

Oh well only time will tell.

Britain is considering a request by Zimbabwe for funds to cover school fees for one million impoverished children – around a third of the country's pupils.

The request was made to the Department for International Development (DIFID) by the Zimbabwean government ten days ago, the same week that schools opened for the year.

Britain paid school fees for about 300,000 mostly-disadvantaged children for three years during the multiparty government, which ended last August when President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party won a huge majority in disputed elections.

Britain, Germany and other European donors also paid for more than 13 million text books for schoolchildren after the inclusive government, which included Morgan Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change, came to power in 2009.

The AU is such a Joke, I think it was formed as a snub against the EU, nothing ever gets sorted at these meetings

I think this is the only way to really send a message, same thing with these mines, shut the doors and re open with machines a few months later, the economy will take such a beating the politicians are going to wonder why they can't afford to drive around in their fancy cars or fly in their fancy jets

Weeelll I wouldn't say nothing ... delegates seem to have no problem sorting out the snack table , booze cabinet and local hookers
 
It just goes to show Africa condones Mugabe and his actions.
Who cares if he has run his country into the ground right?!?
