Mugabe honour to be revoked

Debbie2, I am not joining the debate but I would like to say that at the time of his "award", it was known, in Zimbabwe, that he is a POS. The problem with these political "awards" is that lefties don't care about the truth, only the "feel-good" factor. The recent trip of Pelosi to the middle east is one such example where she has put Syrian womans liberation back years (by wearing the hajib in public) and damaged Lebanon's bid for permanent separation from Syria (by naming Syria the peace broker when they are the guilty party). Before they hand out such "awards", they should do some research on the character of the person.

I understand what you are saying and agree that it happens as you say, for the 'feel-good factor'- what I am saying is not that there is no shame in revoking the honorary degree.

Holistically speaking, of course, that is EXACTLY the point Debbie2 misses. Bob McGabe was a particularly nasty piece of work as a terrorist leader, ruthless in stamping out the opposition at lubberation time, and a perpetrator of attempted genocide shortly after. "POS" is about it. But nooooooooooo! The great lubberation leader HAS to get an honorary doctorate, even if we don't bother to actually evaluate him on his track record. Holistically speaking, that is.
 
who really gives a **** if mugabe loses his honorary doctorate. is that all of a sudden going to make everything better?

what mugabe needs is a bullet in the head. what zimbabwe needs is a bullet in mugabe's head.
 
I come to the conclusion the Democrats and the Republicans are different faces of the same beast (and they are both in on the scam of the world.)

Question: what beast, what scam? (and we are all too scared to answer it or approach it here!)

Or do you mean re-education or "thought reform" in, say, the North Korean sense? You know, a bit of Camp Quattro, a dash of Kamp Staaldraad, late nights etc.

Dear Debbie, I'd like to enquire about your....er...re-education classes. Please would you let me know what your tarrifs are. I'm willing to pay up to 20 bucks an hour, provided that my tuition will be one-on-one and that the course material will be holistic in nature, of course. Please email me a picture of yourself before I make up my mind. I am already looking forward to my first re-education lesson.

They are only 'considering it' now because someone noticed and thought to say 'hey, I'm not proud that my university gave that guy an honorary degree'. Petitions on university grounds tend to be noticed a bit more than petitions on wider scales. It usually a way for not only students, but also for lecturers, professors, researchers, administration, and others in the university community to put their opinion across to key decision-makers. Petitions of this nature are not always adversarial- ie it is not automatically assumed that the decisions-makers naturally disgree with the subject of the petition. It's a way for a collective opinion to be expressed and to see how much general support their is for that opinion.

Only now. I thought these lefties were so enlightend to the plight of sufering people especially in Africa. Then again they probably having a hard time dealing with the realisation that Mugarbage who is black is in fact a racist( would be funny to see them get their "enlightend" minds around that one.) and a tyrant . None of these institutions have 'egg on their faces'. They are simply considering making a public statement saying that they no longer agree with Mugabe's policies and leadership, and that Mugabe no longer has their support as he did in the 1980s when they awarded him the honorary degrees. There is no shame in that, quite the opposite.

Yes they do. The fact that they got duped. Nevermind it took them so long to realise it. Although when the white racist land stealers were "removed" that surely wasn't grounds to begin this "consideration".

Should all University qualification-holding professionals be tracked down and monitored to ascertain whether they still deserve to hold their qualifications?
