Here is a copy / paste of my chat with a friend of mine who is visiting his family in Zim currently. :(

I keep getting a message that you are online.
Internet must be crapping out on you all the time there. :(

16:15 him: m online but this is Zim
me: things bad there? Family ok?

16:17 him: shops are empty or have closed down. zero electricity, m using a generater at my old university. there has been no tape water since i got here, its sad.
me: how long have oyu been there?

16:18 him: a week
me: geez man. rough.
him: the longest week of my life
me: lol
makes one wonder about the policy there.

16:19 him: yes its that terriable, i think its these elections in march which r making this worse

Changed his name to 'him' to protect his identity... Terrible situation, and this is a guy who grew up there and only left 2 years ago to live in SA. :(
 
Hopefully they'd wake up and get rid of uncle bob now...

its time those innocent ppl take a stand and do something about it, its not going to get better

yes he bullies them buit surely their way of life must suck anyhow

so stand up and fight the man, everyone is worried and they dont do anything
 
Funny how lately there arent any pro Mugabe posters on myadsl. A while back there were quite a few always carrying on about Mugabe being the victim... and Britain and the US the ones responsible.

Mugabe has f*cked things up so badly by himself, i think even they are stumped.

All it takes for evil to prosper is for good people to do nothing.

20 years ago the people could have started a civil war and chucked Mugabe out but they didn't stand up and fight.
Maybe they'd have lost loved ones or their own lives in the process but surely the outcome could have been far better than it is now?

This is what I don't understand about Africa - everyone is too bangbroek to stand up and say "No!" or "Enough is enough!".
 
Alas, Mugabe is not in Zimbabwe at the moment so he can hardly be expected to deal with this water crisis. He and his extended family are currently taking a nice holiday in the East after stealing US$ 100000 from the reserve bank for spending money.

Seriously, what is wrong with Zimbabweans? Their country is totally and utterly destroyed yet law and order is at a far better level than in SA! There are no mass riots in the streets. There are no national strikes. Instead, a million people show up for a march in support of Mugabe!

Really, they voted for the man and they continue doing so. I reckon they are getting what they deserve.

Come to think of it, I think a large measure of blame for this mess can be placed squarely at the door of the MDC. It seems like ol' Morgan cannot even arrange a piss-up in a brewery let alone form an effective resistance movement. If only the opposition were not completely useless then maybe things would have gotten to a head by now.

I'm waiting for the last straw to break the camel's back.

IMHO the time for revolution is right - as Mugabe is out of the country, then they can block the airport's runway with lots of scrap cars to keep him away :D

Zim is SUFFERING

i visited recently........in vic falls (the best living area in zim)
people go 80KM to the Botswana border just to get groceries
 
What is really scary, thanks to Escom load-shedding policy the same thing can happen here. We had 2hr loadshedding in 2007, 4hr in 2008, maybe 1 week in 2010? The switch-on process can burn out water pumps and once the reservoir is dry with a stuffed water pump, we can also easily end up with no water for a week. Everyone knows the speed of our local municipalities (slower than Telkom by years)
 
The man is a hero amongst his African peers!
Doesn't say much about his peers now does it!
