I was supplied with a Billion 400G router for the Telkom 3-month free trial

Now a mate has decided to can his own Telkom DSL line, and he still has 10GB data available with his (non-Telkom) ISP. This 10GB data expires end-September.

My question is: Is it possible to set up a second (i.e. in addition to the Telkom ISP settings) ISP on the Billion 400G router, while retaining my Telkom ISP settings?

Ideally I would like to be able to choose at log-on which ISP to connect through, i.e. either my Telkom account, or my mate's unused account balance (he has supplied me with his user / login details)

You can set your router to bridge mode, allowing you to dial in via a PPPoE account on your desktop.

There are only a very few ADSL modems/routers that are able to connect to multiple ISP accounts at the same time from the router itself, and in most of those cases you'll have to use a command-line utilities for that.

I don't know the Billion 400G account at all, so here are just general info:
If you can enable PPPoE Relaying (aka Half-Bridge mode), then you can keep the Telkom account on the router, and when you want to use a different account, you simply connect to that different account from your PC by establishing a PPPoE connection to it.

If your router supports bridge mode, then you can connect to the ISP account from your PC by establishing a PPPoE connection to it.
Without establishing a PPPoE connection and with the router in bridge mode, you won't have any Internet connectivity, unlike half-bridge mode.

I usually suggest that people try half-bridge mode if more than 1 PC uses the router for Internet.

if the router supports DGTeam's custom firmware then maybe. less effort letting the pc handle the PPPoE's imo
..you bypass the router's firewall then, right guys? no biggie, just something to keep in mind

Yup. As soon as you're dialing the PPPoE connection from your PC, you're bypassing the router's firewall, which means that you should have a firewall enabled on your PC!

This is just one of the many reasons why I'd prefer to use a MikroTik RB750 when I'm dialing multiple PPPoE connections simultaneously.

Thanks for the suggestions guys .. appreciated
I'm not sure I understand the PPPoE , etc

But I do not want to connect to multiple ISP accounts at the same time, i.e. simultaneously. I just need to load 2 different ISP profiles on the same router, and to connect to only one ISP at a time. Does this change the info given in the above responses?

What I suggest you do is, set the route in bridge mode, put the telkom GUEST account on the router.
Then setup 2x PPPOE accounts on your PC.
Dial in with whatever one you want. :)
