Morning Guys,

The company I work for is looking to replace the current backup software (Commvault) we are looking specifically a multi platform backup system that can provide us with a full server backup solution, We already have a very good laptop and desktop backup system.
Any response will be very much appreciated.

I would look at EMC Networker. They have some cool solutions for the whole IT landscape.

I started to use them when they were still called Legato Networker. It was bought in the mean time by EMC. Very nice stable and importantly cross-platform product.

Thanks Nod, I will investigate and see if that would be a suitable solution.
How many servers do you have running backups on EMC ?
and do you have a specific contact person I can speak to if not I will do my research and contact them.

How about Attix? There is office in Bryanton and a lot of ISPs and IT providers are offering it, with storage as well.

We using it but only for one Linux server. We found out about it since RSAWEB were using it for our other server

We are currently using Attix for just our laptop and desktop backups.

If you have a fully virtualized environment with either VMware or HyperV you can look at Veeam.

Clarotech, I have added Veeam to my list but we still have a few physical servers, but thanks for your reply.

Nod, I watched the EMC overview on youtube now and its really looks like a simple but powerfull solution. I will do little bit more research and definitely see if we can't move over to EMC.

Personally, if possible, it's worth getting all your machines into a virtual environment so you can use Veeam. With version 8 on the way there is a lot of integration with storage appliances, which means you do things like leverage the power of the snapshots on the device, but manage it from Veeam.

I've recently also done some testing on StorageCraft Shadow Protect for physical machines. It's not as slick as Veeam and all the various components were a bit confusing at first, but I did manage to restore physical servers to VMware with it. It can also move backup images to remote locations which is handy.

I do not have any contacts for Networker any more. I moved out of that aspect of the job a few years ago.

Clarotech - I would really like to move all machines to VM but currently not possible but we are moving towards that.
Myself and my colleague that works on the backups are pushing to move everything over to VM but still busy.

No problem Nod, If we do go as far to get more info from them I will just contact them.

For physical boxes i use Symantec system recovery

Hanks, We tried pitching using Symantec and they turned it down :(

It might still be worth while signing up and getting a trial license to check it out. You may just find that the cool Veeam features will help motivate the transition of the remaining physical boxes. ;)
