Can somebody tell me if only one FNO gets authorisation for laying cables in a MUD, or can all FNO's in the area be considered?

Think our building has octotel and openserve & something else. Afaik BC can inquire from any provider to get services installed.

Makes sense, but I don't think it is always the case! Our complex only has one FNO supplying all the units, resulting in a momopoly and ultimately affecting pricing!
I was just wondering whether this is legal!

Ask you HOA. They were approached with a deal and sold this "contract". They probably get theirs for free.

Shouldn't be allowed! Ha ha, anything is allowed in this country!

You can have as many FNO's as you want, unless the HOA/BC signed some sort of exclusivity agreement. The issue is usually getting more than one FNO to lay fibre in the complex as the economies of scale might not be favourable to them. It will probably depend on who owns the ducts the current FNO lay their cables.

Yes. It's legal.

If you want another FNO, approach one to build.

That part can be challenged legally, it's a grey area legally speaking.

In all my almost decade between TT (dis)Connect and Vumatel, I have never given free services to any member of a BC or HOA. We sometimes gave a free installation at a guardhouse - installation only, no free internets.

I have only ever come across one company who offered free internets to secure a complex. Cowboys who are no longer in business.

In most cases it won’t be viable for another FNO to retrench and reinstate paving etc within complexes, where another FNO already has a 70 or 80% uptake withing existing residents.

what would the reason be to have multiple FNOs in the complex?

I have seen this and been involved in 3 estates that have done this, all that happens is 2 different FNOs damage backbone and last mile infrastructure continuously, making end users irate because you now have 2 FNOs "who are not reliable work properly"

im sure @pinball wizard has experianced this

Pretty accurate.

Vumatel did our complex build after the town build was completed, I had to approach the BC's permission for Vuma to build inside the complex. Since the fiber terminated at the gate of each residence, a cable was run inside the complex to a Fiber Splitter Box that was used to run a cable to all the units in the complex, each of them have their own fiber termination point. All was done very neat in conduit. Vuma still have to install the GPON Terminal for each unit for the tenant to be able to have internet from any ISP of their choice. The network is stable and we never had real issues. Since then, Herotel also build their own network around town.
