DStv's big streaming plans

MultiChoice says it plans to unveil further streaming-related products this year to enhance its customers' experience.

MyBroadband asked the pay-TV broadcaster how its add-on Extra Stream subscriptions performed and whether the move met its expectations.

Yuck. Feels dirty to comment on a DStv article. It's a dirty job, but someone has to get dirty....

"Despite this, then-MultiChoice South Africa CEO Nyiko Shiburi said the company’s efforts to reduce password sharing on its DStv streaming platform have been a major success.

This was roughly six months after the password crackdown commenced.

He explained that DStv customers sharing passwords with friends and family reduces the revenue that companies like MultiChoice receive.

“This is piracy and hurts the whole industry. When we invest in content, we expect certain returns, and when people share [passwords], we don’t get our money back,” said Shiburi.

First of all then "Congratulations on your MAJOR SUCCESS. The Subscriber Decline and revenue per customer is sure skyrocketing.

Point two is utter bullshit. Password sharing is NOT f-in piracy numb nuts. It is exposing your toxic brand to more people and exposing advertisers to more "eyes". So cut down on the number of streams and kill your own company. That was a great move.

Also. I admire your determination to aim for lower and lower bandwidth streaming on mobile devices.
The rest of the world is running towards 8K or at least 4K, but you aim for the bottom of the barrel.

Such innovation deserves the rewards you are reaping.

So you can now have DSTV on 10 devices, but only one device can concurrently stream - really, just a switcharoo on your previous fugg up.

Ag SHEM!

Netflix, still has 4x concurrent connections, and No Advertising. And is still cheaper.

AG SHEM - AG SHEM - AG SHEM

Another thing: Watched a game last Saturday at a Mate.

1/3 or more of the Prime Time advertising was self advertising.

Is it that difficult to sell advertising?

Or

You guys doing so bad you have to canabilize your Prime Advertising slot to self promote?

All I can say is EISH!!!

Their streaming service needs loads of work.
AND, a few days ago, I was picking up some chow from a restaurant that was showing the SuperSport Premier League soccer on all its tellies, via satellite...
Unwatchable.
The signal kept bombing out and all you could see was multicoloured blotches moving around the screen. This was happening every 15-30 seconds.
And I thought to myself... Yeap, I unsubscribed from these clowns over a decade ago, and the "quality" is still the same.

If only Netflix had sport.

4k stream on sport isn't too bad. I haven't really encountered any issues. That said, if there's a cheaper alternative to stream a variety of live sports on one platform without having to jump through hoops, I'll cancel DSTV.

Now they expect me to pay more money on top of my dstv no chance. Look after the the people that already keep you going,or will gone

Nice crowd, at the local - beers are not excesively priced and chow is good.

Late games, you just buy a few beers. A "subscription" that makes more sense to me, good security at car parking area as well.
This doesn't work if you watch a lot of sports. It would cost me 100x more a month and I'd be a drunk and divorced.

That's a bad setup.

Fix the current issues first.
I have to agree with you, 110%!!! When it literally takes four hours to watch a 2 hour program, it truly becomes infuriating. You can get hold of customer service and head clowns, but to no avail. Nothing gets done about and it's expected for you the subscriber to still pay the monthly fee. I'm actually still waiting for replies to getting charged double on the Box office nonsense, not just once but a few times. Also the fact that you download a movie and they send you 20 minutes of that movie.
This never happens with Netflix or Prime Video!!

What's bad is that it was probably setup by a DSTV agent.
There are no "agents" any more. It's independent "accredited" installers. But that aside, people are known to fiddle with it or do it themselves without having the equipment. Or something can go wrong with the equipment or there can even be a tree in the way.

Regardless, it would seem the blokes paying for, it, where resigned to the fact it was crap, for whatever reason. Which is bad for them, and ultimately, bad for DSTV, as a lot of feet eyeball this setup, and say "Eish DSTV" .
