Multichoice HD Decoders

Rumour is July for new Pace decoder. Price will be the same or slightly more than the current PVR...

The new box is going to be made by Pace, not UEC..

For me its all about the content.

They cant just flip a magic switch and every broadcast turns into HD video.

At the moment we only have one show that is shot on HD (last time I checked), "are you smarter than a fifth grader", and I am almost sure (although I am guessing) that they dont get any overseas content as HD.

But, on the other hand, most sport are shot on HD (rugby, cricket, soccer) so from that point alone I guess it would be worth the cost, if sport is you thing.

All the series that Multichoice buys are available in HD, as well as almost all of the movies. Local sport is currently only SD, but SABC and MNet are buying HD equipment.

Not sure if anyone has read this article before, but anyway, a little more info on both the decoder and the content.

Not very clued up info though ...

At the moment you can watch two different channels on two different television sets with a PVR, but the technology is restricted. The second television set can only display a certain pre-set number of different channels from all the channels available on the first television set so it looks likely this situation will be changed for the better too.

Thats only if you're too lazy to upgrade to a dual LNB. With a dual LNB the current PVR can show any channel on either TV independantly.

They also have the wrong notion about 'downloading' VoD content. By the time a certain title is made avaliable to view, it has already been pushed to a reserved partition on the PVR's HD in the backround, so you can start watching immediately.

Lastly MC's solution for dual (or more) view is to enable 2 decoders to operate off one subscription (e.g. PVR I + PVR II = view 3/rec 3 or PVR II + DSD1100 view 2/rec 2) using a feature they call Add2, which links the 2 units via a RF cable.
