The thing is that Multichoice is likely to face some serious competition at some point [e.g. Triple Play services], and I seriously doubt that Multichoice is ever going to give good returns to shareholders, of course I could be wrong - Multichoice could turn out to be South Africa's Google-type-success story...
Anyways ask yourself: Q: Why is Multichoice selling shares? A: Multichoice is low on cash and needs some gullable investors to float the boat again.
No. It is the correct thing to do. Their spin doctors are no fools.
It is hanged on the big bell. Actually a very small pecentage is being "sold." You only have to pay a fifth (20%). The rest will be covered by your dividents. So, they will not be raising a lot of money.
The point is, they are this concerned supporter of the rainbow nation. The percentage being sold is minute. It will have no influance on the whole.
Looking at it from the marketing side it is a marvelous ploy.

No it's not wrong and I truly respect your view because it's YOUR view. I agree, I wouldn't want to buy those shares and hey, I qualify! I haven't milked this BEE craze cause only the elite blacks get rich. And the average shack dweller? All they dream about are houses, forget shares. I have been with the same "white" company for the past 13 years and boy could I have milked the system. It's wrong. I love my co workers and we have mutual respect. I am in a leadership position because, believe it or not, I am qualified
But instead of condemming these companies, how can they reach out to the people who were denied the most basic of human rights, without the "currently disadvantaged" people buying up all the shares? I don't support them, but what suggestions do YOU have, instead of cancelling your subs?

At the end of the Day, does it actually make a big diffrence to you not been able own shares in Multichoice with this specific venture, If I were you I would be selling any shares I had at the momment with the high that the market is on, is bound for a crash sooner than later.

Don't take racism and try and dress it us as something it isn't.
Fact is the offering is racist. That is not opinion. It is fact.
Do you realise there are light skinned coloured people who will be unable to purchase shares because they are unable to prove they are coloured? So they get screwed twice by racism. Anyway you look at this it stinks.
Simple. Just open the offering to everyone.
How you reason that? I am coloured. Are you? My daughter is light skinned and so is my wife. Are yours? We don't have to prove anything?? I told you, you have a choice just like me.

Cause you can cancel whatever subs you have or close all your bank accounts, if you're south african and working for a company, chances are your'e working for a 'BEE' compliant company at the mo and judging by your reasoning, it's gotta hurt, lovely!
So close your Nedbank account too but don't stop there. Close your STD Bank one too cause they have an empowerment (BLACK) partner too. And FNB is administering the Naspers deal too, so close that account too. Naspers is actually a predominantly Afr company but hey, THEY must be racists too for offering both these deals (Multichoice and FNB). So cancel your subs to Die Burger and Huisgenoot too.

Its easy, write them a nice nasty letter that tells them where they can shove their lousy service and why you are telling them to shove it, sell your decoder and dont use them.... I bet the majority of their users are "currently disadvantaged" so if we all told them to go get knotted hopefully it will start hurting their pockets. Oh and tell everybody else that is a subscriber while you are about it.

The reality is that the rich black people will just become richer - this Naspers deal will mean NOTHING for the poor black person living in a shack.
I'm sad to say, but I felt very EXCLUDED when I first saw this ad on TV - but, hey, the big white bosses at Naspers all have their farms in Stellenbosch & huge beach houses at Plett. They don't give a flying faak about the many poor white people in this country.
Its the way the cookie crumbles....

That was my point exactly kingrob. The elite blacks will just get richer. I cannot condemm them as I do not have the solution. The FACT is that we HAD apartheid for such a long time but how will we help the shack dwellers like you say.
I get furious when I hear about quotas for our sport teams also. C'mon, if we have to field an all white team because those are the BEST we have then I'll support them. It's not that hard to do - limit the amount of empowerment deals certain individuals can do as well as spending OUR tax money on SOCIAL SERVICES and not on the latest BMW/Mercedes-Benz.
Never going to happen. The ANC will, in the future, rely on AA & BEE as election grabbers because the ANC being seen as liberators will fade away so people will question what IS the ANC DOING FOR ME? Are they the party that will give me a better chance in life? The answer will be a resounding 'NO' but the ANC will predictably play the race card.

What about applying even if you are white? Just say you are black. They are hardly going to come and look at you, or do the pencil test or anything! If they want a photo just take one of your environmental executive ( the chap who mows your lawns ).
That's not the point.
The point is that it is just plain wrong for a company to specify a group of people based on their race and then to say that race is not allowed to purchase their product.
As I said what next - will we again have stores that sell only to blacks or whites? What gives multichoice the right to say whites are not allowed to buy - NOT BEE or AA - they are corrupting the concept.
Pity we don't have choice, so I don't think anyone will cancel their DSTV or MNET, but go to Media24's website, see what their publications are, and stop buying.
IF multichoice want more black shareholders, fair enough, then advertise in black languages in your media (they own most of the media publications anyhow), do training, go to rural areas and townships and do workshops, but DON'T exclude someone buying based on their race - it's been done before in this country and by the Nazis - Once again I encourage you to call Multichoice on 0112893576 or the share scheme on 0860116226 and tell them what you think.
