MultiChoice rapidly losing DStv Premium subscribers

Good riddance

I have no patience with them and I hope their business fails. Their pricing model was robbery. Why the hell did we need to pay a subscription fee for the PVR version? That show was recorded by me, at my house, on hardware I paid for. Their software and hardware was crap, their DRM draconian, and not licensed so we couldn't even get an alternative decoder that might have had proper show indexing and didn't freeze all the time. You can't even take your smart card on holiday with you anymore. They can sod off.
 
Over the last year, MultiChoice’s DStv subscribers grew from 11.942 million to 13.476 million – an increase of 13%.

How many of those are in countries with a heavy discount and little internet infrastructure though? In all developing countries they are bleeding subscribers on the whole. I wouldn't be surprised if they've reached the cusp of revenue growth in SA if it's not declining already. Not figures they would make public.

The big problem is there are numerous sports bars, hotels, ect in the commercial sector that will still have a premium package, what really should be done stats wise, breaking it down to commercial and home users. Home users is the one that I would like to keep an eye on, as that is the one that should show most movement.

If only we can get commercial entities to switch over to streaming services.....

Doesn't work like that. They pay per channel.

Not if you compare it with buying power. Sure visitors rave about it but only because of our weak Rand and their huge salaries. They're just the only option we have but I'd like to ditch them if I could.

It's not MultiChoice's fault that government didn't license other services before 1995.

How did government protection end in 1995? The only other satellite service was allowed to launch in 2010 and they are still reluctant to allow any others plus StarSat can't launch the channels they want to get competitive like for instance Playboy TV.
 
Just a matter of time before DSTV going to limit the number of devices you can stream on to prevent people from sharing a sub

5 you can register with. Only 2 streams allowed at a time.

Come to think of it have they fixed the problem of unregistering devices and registering others or is it still a lifetime limit for the service?

I've unregistered devices once. Not sure if it still works - that was a year ago or so.
