SABC rejects DStv owner's proposal for Cricket World Cup rights

DStv and SuperSport owner MultiChoice has announced that the SABC rejected its propositions for sub-licensing broadcast rights to the Cricket World Cup.

“After prolonged negotiations, the SABC last night rejected MultiChoice’s latest proposal for a possible sub-license of broadcast rights to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on the basis of the proposed licence fee,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
 
Well, considering how difficult it is to watch anything on SABC, maybe it is just as well.

SABC+ crashes all the time and DTV either does not work, or they don't broadcast the games.

They made a 1.13 Billion rand loss. It's not that they rejected the offer.
The entity has been plundered so severely they cant afford it.

maybe so, but it also doesn't help that 87% of tv licenced people not paying their licences. Being owed R44 billion will affect most companies. Having said that, dropping the ball on especially sports rights and sitting on their hands for too long, they only have themselves to blame.

Here's a novel idea... why not get half decent content and make money on advertising....
 
As for eMedia - chancers and opportunists, none of this is their business.

But that's not Multichoice's problem? They can't exactly offer it for free, otherwise what was the point of buying the rights?

If they didn't buy the rights, SABC wouldn't have been able to afford it from the supplier anyway, and they still wouldn't be able to show the matches.

They're only forcing the issue through government because a local entity managed to secure rights, so now they can try and freeload through local law. Next time MC should just not buy it, and we can see who they cry to...

The SABC was ran into the ground by the ANC. It can no longer be saved. The right thing to do would be to close it down.

I'm aware there are other ways to "skin this cat", but from a convenience point of view it's far better for us this way + entertainment costs only a few hundred Rand more / month.

Also only use SuperSport, but doesn't cost me.
