MultiChoice Welcomes Competition

"Hopefully" DSTV will lower its prices...mmm maybe Telkom will lower its prices too

Hopefully Telkom can learn what affordable prices is by entering the Pay-TV market. I know many of you say that DSTV is expensive, but look at what your getting. Plus, how often is it interrupted. The service is quite good(this is my experience, and it may vary to other people) and at least the technical staff on the phone is competent and the waiting time is about a 1/4 of the time. Yes I know that is a contradiction by saying there service is uninterrupted and then saying I know the wait time of the telephonic support line, but the faults I experienced where related to my decoder and not the interruption of their service.

so? what does this mean? are the going ask less and give more or the other way round?

“This is an exciting development for us and one which will have a positive impact in our industry. We believe competition will attract investment into the broadcasting industry and the South African economy in general. It will also stimulate growth of the pay television market and ensure that consumers are provided with choice and more diversity of content” said Nolo Letele, CEO of Multichoice South Africa.

The biggest winners in the new, more competitive pay-TV arena are likely to be consumers as they will hopefully receive a wider choice of programmes at lower prices.

I wish Telskum would adopt the same approach.

Seems ironic to wish Telkom would adopt the same approach as Telkom Media would have to...

Die Telkom, die...

I think it is rather a case of it is a business making money and there aren't any politicians that have a hand in the pie. The easiest solution is to create some "competition" in order to get their hands on the pie.

I am definitely in favour of competition as the end user most often benefit because all the roleplayers have to up their game but also have to compete for customer thereby lowering their prices. It is just sad as to how easily they (the goverment) can allow competition for businesses that is not state owned or in which the politicians have no stake. The SAT3 cable being a case in point.

Now Icasa must just sort out who owns the DSTV Decoder's, Multichoice or me. Hopefully we don't have to see an influx/plethora of devices in our living rooms. Would be nice if we didn't have to spend money when trying to switch over to new "winner of entertainment".
