Hey, I'm not ingesting my multimeters. Now that we can agree upon.
If you had said you could import coffee from China for half the local price, would you do it?

Normally its max 3 days from China to SA, thereafter the local couriers take their own sweet time. From overseas yes. Not worth the wait for R300 extra.
Yes... this one. It would fit perfectly in the OP's budget.

No it's not, since the cheapest second hand fluke is still outside of OPs budget...Some of those are professional devices with specific high end requirements. But a cheapest Fluke or perhaps a SECOND HAND Fluke are viable alternatives, especially IF the OP intends to use this device for a longer period of time into the future and maybe wishes to project a certain image with his more knowledgeable clients.

This is just for microcontroller projects. So 3-12v max. Really just for continuity and testing a few resistors.Get yourself a used Fluke. Mines been going 15 years and still the best decision I made when it came to multimeters, sub R500 is never going to be true CAT rated no matter what the package says.
Fair enough, would still recommend you invest in a good multimeter when you can, I jumped from small projects to building oscillators etc which needed much better accuracy than the cheapies give you. I had to get an oscilloscope at a point. This is just for microcontroller projects. So 3-12v max. Really just for continuity and testing a few resistors.
I'm still using my FLUKE 75 III issued to me as a appy 30 years ago. Only had to change the battery one time in all these years.Get yourself a used Fluke.
