Hi, I want to install 2 adsl modems on 1 tel line. Reason is the office section of the house is too far from the kids room so wireless doesnt work. Now the clincher,:

1.) Can both modems be on same time while both on the same telphone line and using the same account? Note: ISP says u can run dual sessions with 1 account.

2.) If no to above, then can i have both modems setup identically, account wise, but have office running during the day and kids room modem running evenings when office modem off?

3.) What would happen if both modems get switched on at the same time?

1) no
2) yes
3) no dice, won't work. 1 will sync, the other not. Just depends which boots up 1st.

There's thing called an ethernet cable that works when wireless doesnt. Even you don't want to run it to the office you can setup a wireless accesspoint half between locations.

you can also use PLN (power line network). I use one from Billion. It is the Bipac something or other. You plug the one in at the office next to the adsl modem / switch ( in the wall plug) and the other at the kids room. It sets up a network using your electrical wiring. Works like a charm. Just note that if you have 3 phase electricity in the house the plugs must be on the same phase otherwise you will experience connectivity issues. You can even get one that will create another wireless zone in the house. Message me if you need more info. [email protected]

Theoretically it might be possible to run 2 ADSL modems on the same line if your modems support/allow you to select the frequencies/tones that it operates on? I know my parents' D-Link 2500U modem allowed me to select the tones.

Your best bet would be to either run a long Ethernet cable between the office and the kids' room, or go for a Ethernet over Power (EoP) solution like Burny1 suggested.
If you already have a telephone line running to the kids' room from the office section, then you can always convert the 4 wires into a 10Mbps Ethernet cable.

Using a wireless repeater could also be an option, but its often not as easy to setup for someone who doesn't have the networking skills.
