I have two Apple IDs, one SA, and one US.

Ive read that ios 5 doesnt support multiple IDs.
Like others out there, i have apps from both IDs on my Iphone.
How will IOS 5 effect this?
Apparently you can only log onto one ID every 90 days?

I dont want to loos the apps from one of those accounts..!

I think we will have to wait till iOS 5 is out to see what is really the case.

I see complaints about it allready

as for merging I found this.

But to be honest I'll wait till its out before I jump to conclusions, I just dont see Apple shooting themselves in the foot.

Hmm here is an Article about it

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/08/09/apple-id-account-device-limits-gain-attention/

Trevor Sheridan sent us a note earlier today, asking if we'd look at his blog post about encountering Apple ID limits with iOS devices. Although Trevor just now encountered this issue, the policy actually went into effect a couple of months ago, back in June.

When you use Apple's new multi-device download feature, you will be limited to a total of 10 devices and computers, each authorized with the same Apple ID. What's more, once a device or computer has been assigned to an Apple ID, it cannot be reassigned for 90 days. Apple's Knowledge Base support article details how you can deauthorize devices, and how to check the wait time before they can be re-assigned.

Naturally, this is bad news for anyone who shares an iPhone or other iOS device with a loved one and who switches around the Apple ID accordingly. Once an Apple ID is authorized for media downloads, that authorization is going to stick for a few months at least.

At some point, Apple is going to have to start seriously re-evaluating how real life meets Apple ID accounts, in terms of separating data within a family. Some examples: keeping only kid-friendly material on certain devices, even when iCloud backups and data sharing are in force (also known as the "cheating spouse outed by iCloud" scenario), joining data between adults (marriage and cohabitation), and when joint accounts need to be split (divorce and separation).

For now, all authorization decisions seem to be motivated more by rights management than day-to-day practicalities. This new policy indicates that Apple continues to be a little tone-deaf when it comes to human relationships and how people really use their iOS devices.

Think about the Duggars or the children of divorce; when newly-single Dad buys the kids an iPod, whose account do they get to use? It may seem tangential to drag all this into a write-up about a new Apple DRM protection policy, but these are the real world challenges that make these policies more than a minor annoyance.

I assume you want to keep both because you have purchased apps on both.... My suggestion is to just write off any money spent in the SA store and use the US store, all SA apps are available in the US store so you can re-get them i guess @ a price if you have previously purchased them! Having two accounts isnt worth the trouble and there is no reason to have both! Just my 2c

I can understand if you have a phone that its a personal device but when you have households that share a iPad this new system just does not make sense.

For example parents that dont what to share the same CC account with a child that buy's games for the shared device redeeming cards with his pocket money.

Aha, I really didn't think about that side, I guess my idea is out the window then! I guess we will have to wait until 7pm, which is meant to be what time ita going to be released for us!

OK, just a point of clarification. Are you and your kid running iTunes off the same user account (On your computer, Mac or PC, makes no difference)? If so, just make a separate account for the kid. Then you log into your account and use your Apple ID on your iTunes, and he does the same on his. It's as if you were using two different computers.

Or do I misunderstand you problem?

Not me but my friends household looks like this:

1 Computer, 3 Applie ID's - 4 Devices(iPhone x 2 + iPad + iPod)
Daughter has an iPod, Son and mother have a iPhone and the whole family share an iPad

The kids get pocket money and buy cards to get games or whatever apps they want. Mother uses her CC on her Account.

Would love to see how this is going to affect them.

In my case I have a NZ account as I stayed in NZ when I got my iPad and a South African account that I opened when I got my 1st iPhone before I moved to NZ. Sure my SA account I will only lose about R600's worth of applications that I will have to buy again. But I must admit its something that I dont think is fair to force onto me.

I am running the iOS5 beta and have not experienced any issues switching between US and ZA accounts for purchases and downloading updates of existing apps. Perhaps this only applies to new AppleIDs?

Thanx for that update, I must say the OP got me worried.... But then again will have to see when iOS is out.

Question: are you using iCloud?

Really don't hope that's the case. Keep us up to date guys.

Yea thats quite a bit of money to throw away, i guess if the number was smaller it may be okay, i was lucky that i hadnt spent much when i decided to get rid of my SA account, now i solely use the US account!

How would someone differentiate between which apps are US purchased and SA purchased?
Is there an easy way..?
What a mission its gonna be to sort them out and repurchase...

Question: are you using iCloud?

I tried iCloud and so far it has been a mess - in my case I have a ZA, a US and a MobileMe account. Unless Apple manages to merge all accounts it will be a challenge. During the beta (even the latest update) this has been a mess as iCloud push of applications/downloads did not work if for example you have your iPhone logged in with your ZA account and your iPad with your US account. Although there is mention that Apple is working on merging accounts, I don't think this will be an easy task. They are currently not even in a position to merge a MobileMe- and US-account and the task of merging different currency accounts sounds like a challenge as certain applications are not distributed in all territories.

It will be interesting to see how Apple will just handle the migration of MobileMe (and it's predecessor .Mac and iTools) - all "cloud-based" services. At the moment Apple is not able to merge a MobileMe- and .Mac account and I expect quite some challenges for users of those cloud-services prior to iOS5.

The quickest way seems to be doing it from iTunes. Log into one account, update, then switch to the other, update, then sync.

Since I've now done the bulk of mine I do the ones it lets me (UK account) on the ipad, the US account on iTunes then sync wirelessly.

I also have multiple iTunes accounts, and iOS5 on iPhone and my iPad. No problem with multiple accounts whatsoever for me, works exactly like it used to under iOS4.

It's better now with the wireless syncing. :D

I have the MobileMe and US-account issue. Seems one ID for the iTunes store and one for iCloud now does not allow me to use the Photo Stream. Even if I take a pic on my iPhone it does not appear in the Photo Stream album of the iPhone!! This is all very weird and confusing. Anyone running into similar issues?

Thanks for the info guys! Did the upgrade and I'm stoked that nothing has changed on the multiple account front!
