I have created two email accounts on my iPad - the one is my personal email through gmail and the second is my work email through Exchange. I want to set it up that my work email only downloads when I click into the work email account. My work email receives a huge volume of data so when I'm at home connected to my home wifi (and not wanting to think of work or consume extra bandwidth) I'd like just my gmail to download. But when I'm at work on company wifi I don't mind if both download.

Currently the minute I open the mail app it auto downloads all my mails from both accounts. I have changed my work email settings to both fetch and manual and neither of these options help.

Any idea if it's possible to set it up this way? I'm using ios 6.

Thanks

I am not sure that i can help with such easy functionality, but the solution below might get you some of the way.

I share an Ipad with a number of colleagues. We all have our mail setup on the Ipad. Obviously I don't want all their emails coming through while I have the Ipad with me. Go to Settings>Mail and then under Accounts you can make each mail account active or inactive.

When at work, you can set both accounts to active. Before you leave for home, make your work email inactive.

Another option is to go to "settings">"mail, contacts...">"fetch new data">"advanced"> and switch "push" to "manual" for you work email.

That should allow your Gmail to automatically download mail and force your works email to wait for you to manually initiate a download.

That is how I set it up initially thinking it would work. But even with manual, when I was in gmail the exchange emails kept coming through so manual wasn't helping.

Perhaps the only option is as above just to click the mail radio button to off when at home.

Setting up one account with to manually fetch and another to push won't solve the issue. Cos they're both located under the mail icon, so immediately when you click on the mail icon, all accounts will automatically start checking your mail. So it's either or with iDevices.

I would try what prox has suggested, by having the one address hosted in a different app all together.
